I loved Matt Smith, to be honest. Sure, yeah, David Tennant was great, and I'm sad that he had to leave, but it's not like it's the first time that's happened, right? I just loved how crazy he can be, but it's a different kind of crazy than Tennant's Doctor. It's like he's goofy and magnificent at the same time.
Also, while I've never noticed it before, now I realized why Steven Moffat being put in charge is such a relief to fans; he's just that good. The Beast Below was such a great episode, beginning with several things that looked irrelevant to each other, but tied together neatly at the end, just like The Girl In The Fireplace (which apparently also contained references about The Doctor's true name and why he can't say it).
Oh, also, some people called it season 5, some 31, but it was actually produced as season 1. So, yeah, major change.
Matts Doctor reminds me a bit of Selvester McCoys Doctor
I haven't really seen any of Sylvester's episodes. I saw the movie, but he was dead for most of that, and i saw one serial about Cheetah people (which i thought was awful!). Any reccomendations of particular episodes he was in?

Remembrance of the Daleks, Curse of Fenric and Battlefeild are my fav from his era
The Doctor and Pond continue to be excellent in the second episode. Like others have said; the story probably would have worked better as 2 parts. My favorite bit had to be the part that leads into next week though.

In Doctor Who Magazine, Master Moffat comments on that, and ends up calling it Series Fnarg, just to avoid confusion. I hereby propose that we all follow suit. I mean, he's Steven Moffat, and you don't argue with him.
'The Ultimate Guide'? Some sort of documentary on how the show has developed, I guess. I MUST SEE IT! Wonder if someone's put it up on YouTube or something...

It could just be an hour or so of clips from previous episodes. But hey, i still want to watch it!
Matt Smith reminds me a little of Peter Davidson, that was my first Dr Who back in 1981.
I think this thread is great.
As anyone in the US seen anything of the new look style Dr Who yet? When do you chaps get a whiff of it?
I think the first episode airs tonight over there. I haven't seen this weeks episode yet (ruddy Football postponed the HD episode til 8.30PM). Was it better then the average Dalek episode?
this series death count is rubbish so like 5 or 6 soilders have died
One thing that bugged me about prior series is that the deathcount was always far too high. The only episodes without death were generally Moffats Episodes anyways (although 4 people sort of but not really died in Silence in the library)
Anyway, that episode felt more like a set-up for future episodes. And why did the
Dalek spaceship
look like a brewery/food preperation room? They never used to have a chrome interior!

It was pretty much a summing-up of the current (2005 onwards) version of the show and a few tidbits of what is coming in the new season (namely, more Daleks, more Cybermen, more Weeping Angels, and more River Song).
ive never watched doctor who before and i got the free 9 minute sneek peak off of itunes and was hooked. i dont know what is going on though, because i thought david tennant was the doctor and then there's a new guy as the doctor? weird.
Let me explain. David Tennant was the Doctor. However, in order to allow other actors to play the part, whenever the Doctor 'dies', he regenerates into a completely new body. Same character, different actor. The new guy, Matt Smith, is the 11th actor to play the Doctor. Each actor has their own way of playing the character, but they are all, and this is important, playing the same character.
This week's episode was kind of "meh" for me. None of it struck me as particularly exciting, although it was enjoyable enough to watch.
For anyone super-nerdy or just interested in history, the cabinet war rooms in London are open to the public. I keep meaning to go check them out. Apparently everyone just left when the war was over, closed the door and never had reason to bother going back in. Everything was very well preserved, including all the original equipment, like the ranks of typewriters they used to make copies of documents (obviously photocopiers hadn't been invented). I never really thought about the operational logistics of running a war without modern technology before, but that kind of makes it hit home. I think it would be interesting to see.
I'm pretty geared up about the return of the Weeping Angels next week! Blink remains one of my most favouritest episodes ever.
I went to the Cabinet war rooms two years ago and they are definitely worth a look. Part of the reason I enjoyed this last episode was because it took place in the war rooms.

They really did a great job recreating them, seeing as it was a disused military bunker in wales they used!
They used a set. The real War Rooms didn't actually have that giant map with the models on it.
In the Doctor Who Confidential that went with this episode, Mark Gatiss (who wrote the episode) went to the actual War Rooms with a tour guide and we got to learn all about them. Actually pretty informative.

oh, ok. I like the guy that plays him now, matt smith. hes cool.
Well, we do have Weeping Angels and vampires coming up...
Neither of which really kill people. Weeping angels make you live to death, and don't vampire bites turn you into vampires? I may be getting confused with Zombies there though...
I have high hopes for the Silurians and the new Cybermen though!

Killing you nicely still counts as killing. And I think the Old!Who vampires were more the killing kind than the turning kind (hemovores and Great Vampires).

It's going to become confusing if they keep resetting it.
"Hey, have you seen the latest season of Dr Who? You know, season 2 aka 8 aka 12 aka 38?"

I thought those Daleks were made from Sec, anyways. I thought the Cult of Skaro were unpure
