I was very pleased to see the
    Silurians
make a comeback. I always liked them in the original show. It was a nice break from aliens.

I did like how they ended with the big panning out shot at the end. It was cool and I think it would have seemed out of place anywhere else.

RORY DIED! T_TAND THEN NEVER EXSITED..or at lest he did but the memorys got removed wich would make more sense and avoid coniuty issues like if the dalek invasion of 09 was removed how did adrley brook get inspired to see space in waters of mars

Both things actually gave me a ZOMGWTF moment. I can't wait until the plot advances.

At least we won't have to deal with the
    emotional impact on Amy

    You said it. When
    Rory died
I was totally shocked and disbelieving.

    My reaction was,
    "Nooooooooooooo!I actually liked you!"

But, time can be rewritten so there is hope yet.

I hate to break it to you but the dead in Doctor Who tend to stay dead (well unless their name is
Jack Harkness... or those two in the 1996 Doctor Who Movie
    .)

There was an interesting shot in the TARDIS just as
Amy lost all memory of Rory, where the Doctor stared across the floor and saw the engagement ring case.
I have no idea if that will be significant later in the series, but it was certainly deliberate.

I am quite aware of this. However, in one of the season trailers
Rory was seen in a Roman soldier's outfit. This hasn't happened yet
    .

    So there is some hope.:D

Real shock ending this time, wasn't prepared for that. Kinda remembered me of the Back to the future movies when
Amy waved good bye to her future self, opposed to the last episode when both Rory and Amy waved to their future selfs

Yeah, I know! I'm certain that will be something really important later in the series.

    Either that or
the cracks in time erasing people from history is causing such massive inconsistences that time falls apart even more and more cracks open as a result.

I only like this theory because it would be one of the rare times when plot holes are a seriously important part of the plot! :D
  • edited May 2010
There have been a lot of plot holes in this series. Moreso than in previous series. I keep on thinking back to the glitch with the coat in Flesh and Stone...I'm almost positive that that scene is important.

    My speculation:
River will throw the Doctor into the crack to stop it from consuming everything. However, due to the Doctor previously going back and telling Amy to remember what he told her at the very beginning (Flesh and Stone) she will somehow prevent him from ceasing to exist (I think she needs to remember "Trust me. I'm the Doctor"). I think the Doctor was trying to get her to do the same thing with Rory, but it failed because the memories weren't strong enough or something.

    Anyway, that's my take.:D
  • edited May 2010
    Yeah,
Rory will be back in some part - the actor playing him is in the cast listing for episode 13. And good thing too, he deserved much better then being erased from existence!

Anyway. Good episode. Wish we'd seen the Doctor's reaction to the Silurian scientist being killed, and there was a bit too much talky talky, but otherwise pretty good. But that ending... Woah.

Sorry to just jump in-- just caught up with the series so far. Actually, just finished yelling at my tv screen in disbelief. However, is anyone else thinking
the ring could somehow be used to spark Amy's memory of Rory? I mean, they really made a point of making sure she wasn't wearing it when she forgot him. Although I bet that would be a bit strange-- random engagement ring popping up on your hand. Especially when you've been traveling with a strange man for a while. That might make you wonder.

But maybe the ring has enough emotion tied to it to bring back the memory completely, but for the sake of the plot they couldn't have that? I dunno, what do you think?

maybe rory can use it to return from the land of the dead by placeing it in the center of the crossroads

    Yes!
  • edited May 2010
Or Amy finds it and thinks the Doctor's planning on proposing to her... hilarity ensues.
  • edited May 2010
Yeah, Amy's gonna start liking the Doctor again now, isn't she? Like with that scene at the end of the Weeping Angel episode before Rory joins them.
  • edited May 2010
This might be a very large stretch, but...
Daleks might destroy the TARDIS, based on the fact that the Daleks said they would be back. To deliver the Doctor's long over due tea or something. This might trigger the crack in time and space and time. On the other hand, destroying an iconic object is pretty much a risky business, and the TARDIS should better return somehow.

At least that's what I think will happen.

Well, the finale is supposed to feature
The daleks,Cybermen,Sontarans & Judoon, so my guess is that there is a bigger enemy involved

If he comes back in the last episode, the Weeping Angels got pulled through the time crack too, so surely they'll be back as well?
  • edited June 2010
NO! No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO! They can't do that! They can't
kill off Rory! He was awesome! Nooooooooooooo! I won't believe it. He was one third of the awesomeness of the series!

    It's just not fair!
  • edited June 2010
Well if you think about the "cracks"
they may have similar properties to a wormhole. A wormhole takes things in but it's got to put it back out somewhere. Rory was uncreated in his own lifetime, but he may have been merely displaced and recreated elsewhere, hence the Roman wear. Of course, if that is the case, they'll probably wait until the Doctor and Amy have lost a lot through the cracks in time and space to reveal that. More effective dramatically and whatnot. Of course, there would be a lot of sorting out to do, afterwards. It would still be difficult for Amy to have Rory and for him to not remember ever having met her, assuming she can eventually remember him. Anyway, just an idea.
  • edited June 2010
Maybe they'll fall in love all over again whilst the Doctor looks on, nodding approval.
  • edited June 2010
    Anyone else think that
The echo of the doctors voice when he said "i've got something" could be significant? I.e him on the other side of the crack in the future/past/whatever saying the same thing?
  • edited June 2010
I think it was echoing becuase there was nothing on the other side. And you know how what happens when you talk in an empty space... ECHO ECHO echo echo!
  • edited June 2010
There has to be something on the other side, otherwise what would the sound bounce off of?

What do you reckon the Tardis's waste disposal system is like? Do they jettison waste into the space time continuum or just contain millenias worth of crap somewhere in the Tardis? As long as its not the recycling program from Gridlock, I suppose that wouldn't be so bad.

Well . . . thanks for making me think about that PressidentMax. That was a lovely train of thought.

So, Vincent van Gogh this week. Nothing too exciting, sadly, although seeing the sky from Vincent's point of view was pretty cool. It's a crime to cast Bill Nighy in such a small role though, the man is a legend.

As a Dutchie, I'm quite used to foreigners having a bit of trouble pronouncing Vincent van Gogh's name correctly. It was a bit weird that even Vincent himself wasn't able to do it. The man isn't a Goth! Let's just say that the Tardis' translation system was having a bad day. :P

I though that was a bit odd too. At least the guy in the museum pronounced it rightly (i think it's "Goch" as in "Loch", right?)

Anyway, i thought it was a brilliant episode. It was nice to see the doctor and amy taking a backseat. Plus, it was really emotional at the end. The next time trailer looked rubbish (although, incidentally i did see a Van Gogh leaflet on the frisge! Nice touch.)

I thought it was a nice little episode, and, apart from
    name-checking Rory
, story-arc free. Which made a nice change!

The trailer for next week really didn't make the most of the episode. So here's the brief description from Doctor Who Magazine:
'One furnished room available immediately, shared kitchen, bathroom, with male 27, no smoking, £400 pcm (bills included), plus deposit, suit young professional.'
Which of us wouldn't want to flatshare with a Time Lord? When the Doctor moves in, Craig's life - and his best friend Sophie's - is turned upside-down. Out go pizza, booze and telly. In come time distortion, sinister disappearances... and a worrying patch of damp on the living room ceiling.
Something is amiss on Aickman Road. Something alien...
