That was probably the original intention, but it looks like Caroline ended up being just one aspect of the personality, quickly overwhelmed by the rest. I suspected Chell being their daughter, but it's never really stated and GLaDOS still holds her to be an orphan even in chapter 8, so now I have my doubts.
Good gosh guys, I still want to play this game, despite my friends spoiling it for me. Granted, I think it just wants me to play it more.
Some ass on a forum spoiled it for me, but I think it made things better in a way, wondering what could possibly set off the twist in question. Then the twist happened, and the game was only half over, so yay Portal!
I thought that meant that they adopted Chell, if nothing else. Chell's project in the potato projects says she stole chemicals from daddy's work... so daddy was a scientist or worked around them AKA Cave Johnson

Same here, I was like "nahhhhh" then it happened and I was like "ohhhhh I seeeee"
One of those science fair projects was Chell's? Guess I have to replay that part. Probably adopted by Cave or one of the scientists then. Even the wiki hasn't dug up anything more conclusive.

The potato with growth acceleration says it was made by Chell, using chemicals from her daddy's work. Given that Chell is linked to growth acceleration, I further thought that the timelines could fit if Chell had been exposed to it, making her an adult earlier than normal. There's lots of speculation about a lot of these points obviously, but that's what I got out of the clues.
These theories are all well and good, but Caroline and Cave are both white folk. Chell isn't, well she's got a more white skin tone in Portal 2 than the original, but still

Which is why GLaDOS tells her that she's adopted... I think.

Ooooohhh, could well work out if they wanna roll with it. My Portal 2 theories are that either you play as another test subject as revealed in the coop ending. OR!!! Chell is sick from the moonrock exposure and has to go back to Aperture for the cure CJ said they were looking for, only now GLaDOS wants you out. I'll sell the concept to Erik Wolpaw for £5
Oh def, I still think it's a ways away though. They're certainly up to something massive with all this time they've been taking. That or it's in production hell
Definitely don't think it's in production hell. Just think that, once they realized it's scope, it had to undergo a massive rethink and overhaul. That episodic thing never really worked.
Undoubtedly, once it releases, I will play my way through all of Half Life 2, Episodes 1 and 2 again, before tackling 3.
Also, somebody smack the creators of the Black Mesa mod please.
Heh, wow. I wonder if they've considered the fact that both Portal and Portal 2 were created from scratch in less than the time it's taken them to remake an existing game.
Finished the single player and it was great!
Well, if I really have to complain about something, it was too short.... and easy (took me a total of 7 hours with all the exploring
and around 30 minutes of listening to the defective turrets dialogue, hilarious)
. Yeah, if you are looking for a challange this isn't the game for you. I never searched for hints or help. I had to think really hard like two times. While in portal 1 I distinctly remember surfing the internet for hints several times. So the things are two, the game was dumbed down a lot or I got smarter... I'm 100% certain it's the first one! XD Apart from that the story, the puzzles, the secret rooms/stuff were fun/interesting and you get this creepy feeling in the back of your head when some things happen
... I can see those half turrets/half companion cube beings when I close my eyes. My God o_o
Also, loved the Cave Johnson bits.
the mantis men army, the delivery of "she's married..... TO SCIENCE!!!" and the Black Mesa comments were my favourites
The co-op is hilarious, didn't try it with friends since they don't own/know the game but with some random strangers. We only did all the chambers in room 1 & 2 tho. The first one with a french dude who didn't speak a word of english but we somehow managed to understand each other without talking much and unlocking gestures together was so much fun 'cause when we did something awesome we high-fived and stuff XD also it took us like 10 minutes to understand how to do the "hi" gesture and we stared at each other until I accidentally moved the mouse while pushing Q and explained to him what to do, thank god he understood haha the other one was german, spoke english but it wasn't fun like with the french guy. He was nice and all but rushed from room to room and didn't do any gestures kinda took me out the fun. We got stucked in a chamber for like 20 minutes
the one with the giant fan
and I didn't know what to do in another couple of chambers so I'm doing a lot worse in co-op lol
Just finished single player. Next up is co-op.
I actually like this song better than still alive. I hope its up on youtube.:)
And to those that havent played yet, but want something, check my steam screenshots for some of the moments ingame.
Also I never once used that one tube in the trailers that kills the robots. Is that in co-op?

No, the Pneumatic Diversity Tube was removed before the game shipped.
So... It turns out that Aperture Science was not only founded in the state where I was born, but in the peninsula that I was born in. The only way I could find this cooler is if it were formed in the city too.
I would be terrified if I discovered that Aperture Laboratories was located in my hometown lol.
True but I would consider it lucky if I can snag a portal gun
Plus with the crap Black Mesa had going on, it could have been worse.
Also, I saw zero references to the combine. I would think since they wiped out most of the human race, we would see some hint, but nothing. Glados even talked about them in the first game(one of her lines is to not kill her since there are new leaders out there that would kill chell in an instant) so why isnt there any sign whatsoever? Did the combine flat out ignore apature?

I totally agree with this sentiment. Ever since I finished the game, I keep on contemplating how I would place portals around school to decrease my travel time from class to class. Yes, I'm boring.

I do that a lot in crowded hallways. "I can see a wall here and there, if only I could make portals... these people are really annoying"
See, a portal gun would be totally useless if I had my most desired superpower, which is pocket dimension/portal creation. A portal gun is limited by that whole line-of-sight issue.

Actually, I found the puzzles in the second one to be much more challenging than in the first. I pretty much cruised through the first game without having to seriously stop and think very often (and usually that only happened as a result of me not realizing something stupidly obvious). Whereas, in the second game, there were numerous times where I found myself stuck and clueless, and having to spend extended periods of time staring at the screen thinking "what on earth do I have to do here?"
But it seems that everyone is finding the second game easier, which I've found strange, since I've found it to be the opposite way around. I think most players are finding the second game easier because they played the first game quite a while back, and are now used to all of the mechanics, and are accustomed to using portals properly. Whereas I only played the first game (for the first time) about 5 days before playing the sequel. I didn't have the experience with the game's mechanics as most other players did, since I was still relatively new to them (and I had a few more gameplay elements to learn on top of that).
So I actually think that the puzzles were more difficult in the second game, but weren't as challenging to all you 'Portal' veterans because you were all used to the mechanics (and have been for some time).
Also, loved the Cave Johnson bits.

I agree, I thought that everything Cave Johnson said was pure gold . And I take my hat off to whoever was voicing him, because that guy did a top job.
The forums discussing this game are almost an alien world to me. It seems vast amounts of people don't get the tone of Cave Johnson or the miracle 50s/60s when the future seemed like this impossible future full of amazing creations fueled by technology and the atom bomb. It makes me realize why so many people don't like The Venture Brothers, whose first two seasons are especially constructed on that shtick. If you don't get it you don't get Johnny Quest either, and that kills me.
One person even didn't get the joke where Cave says "Say Goodnight Caroline" and she replies "Goodnight Caroline". He said it implied she was talking to a computer version of herself.

I don't like those guys. I'm sure the mod'll be great when it finally arrives but they're up their own holes if you ever bother to lurk their forum
The other day one dev remarked that it was 'cute' to see what valve had done with Source in Portal 2
Yeah, do so, or you'll ruin yourself!
Gah. I hate that. Those guys are high on themselves.

Awww. But we did get a 3rd gel so I guess it evens out.

Or cliffs nearby that you could fling yourself off!
And I would use the portal gun for when Im with my friends and be a jerk to them.

What, you haven't looked yet? That was one of the first things I did upon completion.
 The second swear word in a week! Man, you're going off the rails.
I swear as much as anyone IRL. On here, I generally hold myself above that, so when I do, it's usually a precision F strike.
I agree here. Any other descriptor would just not have the same effect.

That's a classic reference people!
