Played for about 30 minutes today and got to the end of chapter one.

VERY entertaining. The joke about an Animal King Conquest was good for chuckles. And the general tone is menacing.

Played an hour of each mode. Single player is definently great (so many great lines!), and co-op is more fun than I expected. Loading can get annoying, but I only have one small complaint: Did anyone else notice
the portal gun sounds slightly different
    ?

Decided to pick up the game today. Love Stephen Merchant in this game. Only got to play for about an hour thus far but after work tonight i shall portal it up.

I did, but it didn't really bother me. I liked the fact, however, that they did rerecord custom sounds for Portal 2 like the use sound, footsteps, electricity, etc that were from Half-Life 2. Gives it its own identity.

    Definently a good game.

50 bucks would TOTALLY have an effect on my survival (don't go all "you could preorder for 45", if it's over 30$ I might as well don't eat anything for a month), so I'm just reading about people's amazements (and disappointments about trading system which I also found pretty weird) with awe and jealousy.

I do like how they used new sounds, but changing the most heard sound from the original was just a little strange at first. Luckily, it does not ruin the fun at all.

Considering the trading system isnt out yet. That is wierd.
I mainly hate the store system. TF2 fine, they delivered free content for a while and technicaly still do. Portal 2 on the otherhand is brand new and the shop is there.

As long as there is a cross game trading system(Ex. I have the Engineers cap, Ill trade it for a robotic dance in Porta 2) but that would be a little hard to implement correctly, but it is the only way Ill ever get the content.

And while Im at it, I noticed in the "flags" department, that there were flags for the potato sack games, but not for Meat Boy. I would have actually bought that.

That's better than the alternative. I might have to see if I can swing getting it as a reward for all this landscaping work. But odds are I'll be stuck holding out for a Steam sale in the distant future.

I liked the first game but ran in to a snag with getting this one. Between JP, LA Noire and Fable III for the PC in May I'm just going to have to wait on this one. I'll play it eventually but for now it will have to play the role of sacrificial lamb.

Just clocked in another 30 minutes and finished up Chapter 2. How many are there?

    9. I think they have varying lengths, though. Depends on where you get stuck.
  • edited April 2011
Eight or nine. The only disappointment for me is that the game is not as long as I'd been led to believe by some previews and interviews. The single player campaign was about one and a half times as long (for me, anyway) as with the first game, while I'd been expecting twice or more. But it was amazing in every other way.
It also seems to be easier in some ways (not a criticism, just an observation). The deadly energy balls are replaced with beams that take longer to kill you, and what timing and quick action puzzles there are are more forgiving. I suspect this was done mainly for the benefit of console players, but I actually welcome these changes on PC too. Puts more focus on thinking.

Sheesh I'm on 6 right now.

Well I'm calling it quits on 6 for the night. Will beat it tomorrow then give my review, though I'm pretty thrilled with it so far.

The action's more thrilling than any FPS out this year

The animation puts Pixar to shame

The writing'll make you laugh harder and louder than anything at the cinema

The puzzles are more satisfying than any adventure game i've played in a long time

    Overall I give it 3/10, because i'm a moron

Ok I have to admit on the story.
    1.
I see why valve used potatos for their ARG
2.I was spoiled about who the main antagonist was and I was STILL shocked when it happened. That is good storytelling.

Me:Hello mr.heavy. Hi this is Gman, Ribs says Portal 2 sucks.
    Heavy:WAT GAME IS THAT!!
Me:One of the best, second to your TF2.
    Heavy:Never heard of it!
    Me:It gave TF2 a hat.
    Heavy:I WILL KILL HIM NOW!

I acknowledge the fact that Portal 1 was one of the best FPS games of all time and I do not need to validate that. I haven't played the sequel but I'm sure it'll raise the bar even further. I also do not need to validate that.

I also think Motörhead is one of the best bands ever. I don't feel like validating that either. Surely I'm giving everyone a feast of material in order to appropriately and constructively discuss about.

I really want to watch Lemmy: the Movie but it didn't come here, and I don't really want to disgrace it by merely pirating it.

I wouldnt call portal an FPS. Ok it is first person, and there is a gun, but I would call it a FPP, or a First Person Puzzler if anything.

It does fit the given description, though. You don't always have to shoot a target directly.

Yeah, I'm in the same position. The only difference is that I haven't looked for it yet, so I can't say for certain that it's not in stores here (but I'll just assume that).

You could always put in an Amazon order. I would, but I'm not all that desperate to see it. I was much more interested in hearing 'The World is Yours' than watching 'Lemmy'.

I think I broke my game. Are you supposed to be able to walk vertically up a wall?

Unless Aperture Science have developed some new boots that allow test subjects to do that... then no.
  • edited April 2011
Was weird I was in a vertical shaft where you can use white goo to assist yourself getting up, then when I can out of it real high up, I could proceed upwards a distance by walking on the wall.

That's because it's on a slant. It messes with your head because it looks like it's vertical because there's no other point of reference, but it's not vertical it's on a slant.

Sweet baby Jeebus, this game is GOOD. From beginning to end, this is one of the best sequels I've ever played, and I'm already chomping at the bit to replay it in commentary mode.

I love commentary mode, I get to fawn over just how smart and handsome the folks at Valve are

I've heard rumors about a sortive expansion for Portal 2 which would allow you to create your very own levels, but was planned to be released after the initial launch. Does anyone know if that's true?
  • edited April 2011
You can make levels for all of Valve's games sooner or later after release. Valve are huge community supporters. Half their team are comprised of them after all. It's only a matter of time before Portal 2 support is added to Hammer if it isn't already.

I think they've got totally new mod tools coming out. Gabe said that it was too hard for people to create content currently and that new tools would be forthcoming a while back

Ok thanks, that had me totally confused.

I enjoyed it and appreciate the clear level of polish involved, but still feel the game is average. Not enough was done to the formula to make it feel fresh. I'd rather this be more like BioShock Infinite, the same type of game, just executed completely different with a neat new gimmick.

I beat the game yesterday, and I'm looking for a non-sucky co-op partner. Anyone who's interested can contact me VIA steam
