Dont worry. We still got the game, and we still are getting free DLC

Will PS3 get that "free DLC" too? No one is answering that when I ask.

The PS3 version has steam built into it for a reason.;)
Also. Valve got the 360 version to get this DLC for free too.

Well that's good, after playing and winning Portal 2, I felt it was short and needed some expansion. Is it single player or co-op DLC?

IT's nothing new, just a challenge mode.

Meaning what? I never found out what that is. Is it like the harder version of the game?

It's timed versions of the individual test chambers. In addition to 0:00:00 style time, it also tracks # of steps and # of portals it took you to complete the chamber with leaderboards. Was in the first game.

There are also harder versions of test chambers FYI.
    Perhaps a
Wheatly Boss Battle with no portals

Really??? Wow. I am impressed. How did they manage that?

Probably Microsoft didnt want the bad rep for being the only people to not offer free DLC for this game.
And so far only the first pack is free for them. Who knows on the rest.

I don't think they did, I just read on Gamespot or IGN that Xbox gets it for $7 and PC gets it free. Maybe PS3 too.

I read the Gamespot article; they referenced how L4D2 had free PC DLC, but xbox paid. valve must have done something since then, because now everyone gets the Portal 2 DLC free.

I read somewhere that Team Meat found a loophole to allow free content updates to Super Meat Boy. I think Valve is doing the same now.
  • edited April 2011
As far as I know the only way Microsoft allow free DLC is if it has no new achievements. Of course they may have changed this strategy but that's all the real knowledge I have to go on.

Holy crap, replaying Portal immediately before starting Portal 2 was an amazing decision. It's one thing to go through familiar areas like that from a game you've played before, but it's something else entirely to go through them having just been there. Wow. I managed to finish test chamber 11/22 in Chapter 3 before quitting for bed.

Unfortunately, quitting is where I ran into a little snag. I'm not sure if this would've happened if I hadn't tried Alt+Tabbing out of the game earlier (which produced similar results until I managed to switch back the game), but when I quit, my computer threw a fit. I got my taskbar (with corrupted graphics), and I got the bar at the top of Firefox, but the rest of the screen was stuck on the Portal 2 "do you want to quit" screen, and I couldn't get anything to do anything. I ended up having to force shutdown my computer. I sure hope that doesn't happen every time I play it.

    I can confirm that.
They use Teh Internetz and used online servers to allow the free levels.

Yeah it was a good call playing portal first. I also rolled the first game straight into the 2nd and yeah, the early chambers were incredible. I went from the xbox on a 40" TV to portal2 on PC with a 19" monitor. So much sharper and the graphics were stunning, allthough I'm not sure where the benchmark is for graphics these days as i havent played stuff like Crysis and Killzone3.

Well up for some advanced chambers but i'm slightly concerned about about the challenge mode, I get this Itch, i need gold, I just HAVE to test

Sure did, and it adds another piece to the mystery!

    It's Freeman's sister!

    Valve you clever little people.

Erik Wolpaw was a writer on both Psychonauts and the Portal series. So there's that.

I just reached Chapter 7, but as much as I want to finish the game, it's 5:30 am and I really ought to get to bed.

Also: J.K. Simmons as Cave Johnson. YES.
  • edited May 2011
Yeah Simmons is pretty brilliant. He's done some of my favorite roles and completely caught me by surprise when I first saw him in Oz.

    Interestingly enough, wouldn't
Chell get deathly sick too due to the exposure of the moon rocks, afterall thats how Cave Johnson died.

Between both games, we only know that it was a few hours worth of
exposure. Cave Johnson may have only started to get sick being around them for years--or hell, maybe some longevity science test had him injecting it into his blood stream or something.

Something is not right, Portal 2 wont launch!!
    WHY!!!!

Gee, it's a good thing you exclaimed "why" in all caps and 4 exclamation points or we wouldn't have all the information we need to diagnose your problem!

My read from the dialog was
it was the act of grinding up the rocks into dust to produce the paint that was deathly toxic, not the actual finished moon paste itself. Maybe that's just details, though.

I could do much worse than that, but either way steam alerted me about the corrupt files about an hour ago so I guess Im good now.

That's how I took it too.

Yes, yes it is. My only problem with it is that he plays it sort of similar to how he played J. Jonah Jameson, so I'm reminded of his role in Spider-Man fairly often when Cave speaks. But that's not something that can be helped. J.K. Simmons was the perfect choice for the role, and he fucking nailed it.

I've been a huge fan of Cave Johnson ever since I read that backstory thing on the old Aperture website. In fact when I try to think of a random name in my head at any time, "Cave Johnson" tends to pop up first consistently. I was a bit disappointed that we didn't see a bit more
    shower curtain
influence in that section of the game, but at least it was alluded to. I definitely loved the voice and the attitude, it wasn't totally what I had in mind originally, but it worked perfectly.

That was my impression as well.

    Although
the gels were apparently considered harmful enough that they eventually quarantined them all behind that hatch, so there might be some risk that they were not entirely non-toxic. But I feel like if he thought that the employee test subjects were at risk of coming down with the same thing he had, he would have mentioned it, since he seemed fond of mentioning, then downplaying, the ridiculous hazards of testing in some of the earlier chambers.

    he played J. Jonah Jameson

He played Jameson in Spider-Man? Dang! Now he really is cooler then I already thought he was. Also, did you notice how that the deeper you get into the science facility, the older his portraits get? I just thought that was interesting.
  • edited May 2011
You can see different years marked on the walls the higher you go marking each new decade along with each new portrait of an older Cave Johnson. The last area with Cave on the loudspeaker (during his epic lemon speech) was in the 1980s.

Sure did, among other things. Right now, odd as this may sound, I really enjoy those commercials he's been dong for Farmers Insurance. He cracks me up.

Edit: Oh, wow, he's voicing Jameson on the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon that comes out this fall.

It doesn't look like he's going to be in that new Spider-Man movie though, drat. Hell, I doubt Jameson will even be in the movie. But if he is he needs to be played by that guy.

    Strangely enough, he only mentioned
repulsion gel to be the harmful one at exposure. He also said it was living for some reason.

what is this i don't even

If you hadn't guessed, I just saw the end.
  • edited May 2011
Just finished! It's truly awesome. I'm thinking it's not really that short though like everyone is saying it is. It took me about 10 and 1/2hrs to complete. That's without co-op. I also think it was harder, but then having a holiday near the end of the game made me forget what was going on and it took me a while to get back into the swing of things.
