Interestingly, the guy who created that game is the same guy who created SCI Studio and a myriad of other tools that allow us to hack Sierra games and create our own SCI adventures. And one of the soundtrack composers is Virt himself! Nice.

I'd like to direct ye all to the epic GOG sale.

Buy 1 get 1 free on D'n'D games.
But you also get Temple of Elemental Evil for free with any D'n'D Purchase as well! (If you don't already have it)

DnD games?! I'm totally there. I was meaning to get Neverwinter Nights and Icewind Dale anyways. Just waiting for this.

Ack! But there's also Icewind Dale 2 which is in 3.0... They just had to make this difficult for me, didn't they? No matter. Anyone have any suggestions as to which ones are better/more fun?

tough choice since I didn't really like all three games you mentioned. I guess you already got Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape Torment?

Yeah, I got those when the first sale came out. The reason I was interested in Neverwinter Nights was because I've been hearing that the second expansion was really good. Also, 3.0 rules. And I think someone recommended Icewind Dale or something.

    NooooooOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure I already got Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, and I got Neverwinter Nights (I believe I got both games), but still.

I really wanted to repurchase Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, if only because then I had digital copies of these wonderful marvels of marvelous marvels. That and I need to search through my stuff to find the games.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm MC Hammer broke until the 27th, on which day I need to purchase birthday gifts.

Today's Daily Deal is AI War - Fleet Commander, which I could swear has already been a Daily Deal. £2.37 / $3.39.

The Midweek Madness is Cities XL 2012. £7.50 / $10.
  • edited February 2012
    NoooooOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just when I'm broke they discount the ONE game I really wanted to have in a Midweek Sale.

So, I bought Cities XL 2012 (which I assume is what you meant you wanted) and put it in my inventory.

I will gift it to you if/when you have something comparable to trade for it.
  • edited February 2012
Well, at the moment I have Magicka, Zero Gear and Abe's Oddyssee, but I'd rather wait until I have the money to trade it with the Blackwell Deception, or any other Wadjet Eye Games product of choosing.

    Sure.

Today's Daily Deal is Ceville, an adventure game that I suspect some of you will like.
    2.49, whatever your currency (grr).
  • edited February 2012
I haven't played it, but it has received some great reviews(someone here reviewed it a while ago too, if I remember correctly). I picked it up.

    Today's Daily Deal is Mirror's Edge. Need I say more? £3.24 / $4.99.

Also, the Weekend Deal is Deus Ex: Human Revolution (again). 66% off everything to do with it - that includes the DLC packs. Fair few items there, so check 'em out if you haven't picked it up yet.

Oh, and the other Weekend Deal is the Serious Sam Complete Pack. That's 66% off too. No page yet though :(
  • edited February 2012
I would buy Mirror's Edge but I am boycotting EA for no longer releasing games on Steam.

There is a page for SS now. All the games in there are also 66% off. They are doing it the right way.
  • edited February 2012
Yes indeed. Here is said page.

    Steam-redeemable Amazon sales:

    Darkness II - $24.99
    Darksiders - $4.99
    Payday: The Heist - $4.99
    Saint’s Row The Third - $24.99
    Warhammer 40K Space Marine - $14.99
    Red Faction Armageddon - $4.99
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War II Retribution Complete Pack - $19.99
  • edited February 2012
Just saying, Mirror's edge doesn't have any Origin support so there's no malware with the game. You can buy it safely.
  • edited February 2012
I think it's more a moral stance - if it's EA, he won't touch it, whether it's on Steam or not.

Which is a shame, 'cause for the price, Mirror's Edge isn't all that bad, but hey - That's his call.
  • edited February 2012
Mirror's Edge is a pretty cool game, I might be temepted to pick it up despite my growing hatred for EA. Also boycotting games like this usually DO have an effect. For an example, some people I know boycott ubisoft games for their 3rd party DRM. Fast forward to now, or about amonth ago, (Please don't cite me on this, I THINK I heard it in an IGDaily.) Ubisoft plans to release Rayman Origins to PC in around March or april, without said third-party DRM. (Again don't cite me on this, it's late and I will try to find the source.)

EA is slowly but surely ruining Bioware :( with rushed releases and dumbing down/Consolizing games like Dragon Age.
  • edited February 2012
That's okay. We don't need Bioware specifically.

it's that. And yes it hurts since I would love to get this but EA has shown me that they don't want my money on new titles and so they shall not get it on older ones as well. Give me the Spore complete pack for under 10€ and I might crack but not for this game.

    I do.

How do I like Bioware while at the same time hating EA?

I like KOTOR, DA:O, and the Mass Effect series (though I have yet to play Jade Empire), so I want to support Bioware. On the other hand, I want Origin to explode in a big fiery ball that was visible from space.
  • edited February 2012
Origin is the reason why I'm having trouble deciding If I want to buy Mass Effect 3 or hang on to the string of hope that it might come out on Steam.
  • edited February 2012
One reason why I hesitate to be active on Bioware's forums is because if I were to ever be banned on their forums, my game DLC wouldn't activate anymore.

...which is one more reason why Steam is a superior content delivery system.

    So freaking stupid DRM.

Drew Karpshyn has left the company and a few ex-Bioware devs are working on an amazing-looking RPG called The Banner Saga. As far as I care, Bioware as it is today can go burn in Hell.

Today's Daily Deal is Deathspank: The Baconing. It's... OK. Not brilliant, but OK. £2.49 / $3.74.

Also, remember those vouchers you got from the XMas thing? They run out on the 1st of March, so either use 'em or trade 'em, cause in a week they'll be useless.

(We did, once upon a time, list 'em under the Goodwil Gift thread. Not sure if people still remember that!)

It looks... actually I have no idea how it looks. We'll see. But yeah, one RPG does not a replacement make.

One RPG every two years would be an adequate replacement, though.

I wasn't referring to screen shots, I was talking about whether or not it looks like it will be good. Anyway, I can only hope that some developer will take up the torch of the tactical party-based RPG, since Bioware seems largely to have abandoned it.

Third person, shallow action games with dialog trees and lots of overproduced cutscenes.

I won't go on a long rant about the current state of Bioware, but it's become pretty apparent that they have moved away from the classical RPG formula. Dragon Age: Orgins was closer to that, but if you read a bit about how it was viewed pre-release, EA (and the head-honchos at Bioware, to a lesser extent) did not expect it to be nearly as popular as it was. So even though DA:O ended up being Bioware's best selling game ever by most accounts, before it was even released they drastically changed their design philosophy for the sequel, making it into more of a squad based action game in the vein of Mass Effect.

So yeah, there's nothing inherently wrong with the kind of games Bioware are making now; I love Mass Effect 2, and though DA2 was disappointing I can still see them making a good franchise out of it. What I don't see is them turning around and starting to make games like the RPGs of yesteryear. That's another reason why I'm so happy about the success of Double Fine's kickstarter -- it's made some of the developers of the great old RPGs take notice, and start to consider funding projects in a similar fashion.
  • edited February 2012
I can go picket them. Go down the street, knock on the door and tell them to make classic RPGs. I'm not a huge BioWare fan, but they really ARE almost literally down the street. I don't think it would do much good except for make a good story and I could laugh about it.
