I don't think console games really fall within the boundaries. The "Steam" is being stretched a bit by extending it to other PC DLC offers, I think it would break when you start including console DLC. Plus, talking about one console and not the other two feels exclusionary. I think having this be the PC Donloads Sale thread is good enough.
Quick question - should I start posting the offers on Xbox Live? I won't be doing it for PSN because there's just so many, but there's usually only a couple of XBox, so that'd be do-able.
Thoughts?
Also, I bought the bundle. Can I be your friend now, ketzer?
I can't see the problem permitting you change the title to "Sale Spotlight" rather than "Steam Sale Spotlight", otherwise it's just misleading.
Actually I wouldn't mind seeing Xbox sales listed. I ALWAYS miss out on them because I don't go on my xbox that much.
The more I think about it, the more I think it's probably not a good idea to post too much about consoles. A daily reminder of Steam sales is fine, as is others chipping in with other offers I don't tend to follow (Good Old Games, for example, or the new Indie Royale bundles). Throwing consoles into the mix seems overkill.
That said, I'm still gonna give it a go, just to see how much work it is. So with that in mind, here's this week's Console Craziness.
XBox
The original Dead Rising is on 'offer', if you can call it that. The original DR is 25% off (though a retail copy will still be cheaper), and both extra cases for Dead Rising 2 - West and Zero - are half price at 400 and 200 points respectively.
Also, the three X-Men movies (and Origins: Wolverine) are on offer, with 40% off. Even though getting the DVDs is still probably cheaper.
PSN
There's a Halloween sale on, which should mean that a bunch of stuff to do with zombies is reduced. In reality, the only standard games on offer are minis and PS1 games like Monsters Inc: Scare Island (!) and the original Resident Evil. There's also Deathspank: The Baconing, but quite what that's got to do with Halloween is beyond me.
The best deals are for PS+ members. There's not really a whole lot on offer if you're not, but if you are, then you can get every game Telltale's released on the PS3 a little cheaper than normal (and they're not that expensive as is, so that's pretty damn good), and there's a bunch of add-ons for games like Alice: Madness Returns, Dante's Inferno and Dead Space 2.
...so, yeah.
If I keep these up, expect them on a Thursday, since both consoles should have updated by then. But since that took around 20 minutes to do, don't hold your breath.
OK, so I got the indieRoyale bundle... checked the FAQ first to see if it was Mac compatible, and they said it was, so I got it. No dice. All four games are PC only. AURGH.
Well, that's false advertising, isn't it? I can only suggest you give them an e-mail and see what they have to say.
Today's Daily Deal is Midnight Mysteries - The Edgar Allen Poe Conspiracy. It's a hidden object adventure game. £1.50 / $2.50
And I note that Railworks 3 has a zombie-themed add-on. I think a trend has officially gone too far when a train simulator somehow contrives to include it.
So wait, has nobody brought up the Halloween Sale yet, or did I miss that post?
it's only just gone up today, and I wasn't looking at the top of the page, so I missed it. But f**k me if there aren't a lot of games there! This is going to take a while.
Well, that's false advertising, isn't it? I can only suggest you give them an e-mail and see what they have to say.
Their FAQ says that if you're unhappy with your bundle in any way, they will refund your purchase as long as you email them with the address you used for the bundle and your bundle number.
I'll just post the good ones for the Halloween sale:
Amnesia: Dark Descent - €3
That will be all.
Amnesia is good, but so is the Penumbra pack, Vampire: Masquerade - Bloodlines, Painkiller(if you like shooters), and the Zombie Shooter games(if you like overhead shooters). The rest of the sale, though, is lame, not really priced right for an impulse buy($1 off Cthulu Saves the World is hardly compelling), or in the case of Rock of Ages a game I haven't played or have an opinion on.
So yeah, Steam's got a massive, and I mean massive, Halloween sale on. I don't thing I've seen this many fantastic deals since... well, since Summer. And since I am such a god-damn sadist, here's the list.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent - £2.60 / $4 Atom Zombie Smasher - £2.04 / $3.40 Bioshock 1/2 - £3.49 / $4.99 each Borderlands - £4.99 / $4.99
- The four DLC packs are £1.57 / $2.49 each, or all four are £4.74 / $7.49. Alternatively... Borderlands: GOTY edition - £4.99 / $7.49 (odd how they've not mentioned this one in the big ol' list...) Bunch of Heroes - £6.74 / $7.49 Burn Zombie Burn! - £2.38 / $3.40 Cthulu Saves the World - £1.33 / $2 Dark Fall: Lost Souls - £3.74 / $4.99 Dead Horde - £5.35 / $6.69 Dead Island - £22.49 / $37.49 Dead Space pack - £15.29 / $16.99
- Dead Space 1 is £5.10 / $6.80, while Dead Space 2 is £9.99 / $9.99, making it not only badly converted, but also cheaper to buy them separately, thus negating the point of the pack. Whoops. Devil May Cry 3 SE - £6.99 / $9.99 Devil May Cry 4 - £6.99 / $9.99 Dracula Origin - £3.74 / $4.99 Dungeons (Special Steam edition) - £6.79 / $10.19 Dungeons II: The Dark Lord - £20.09 / $20.09 (stellar conversion there) F.E.A.R. Collection (everything except F.E.A.R. 3) - £6.79 / $6.79
- The original game's £2.37 / $3.39, Project Origin is £3.39 / $6.79, and the Reborn DLC is £2.03 / $3.39 F.E.A.R. 3 - £17.99 / $29.99 Ghost Master - 74p / $1.24 Ghostbusters: The Video Game £1.74 / $2.49 Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime - £3.49 / $4.99 Haunted House - £2.49 / $4.99 Killing Floor bundle (Original game + character packs) - £6.97 / $10.17 Left 4 Dead 1 (Chelsea 2) - £4.41 / $6.79 Left 4 Dead 2 (Liverpool 3) - £5.09 / $6.79 Nation Red - £2.72 / $3.40 Overlord trilogy - £3.74 / $4.99
- Overlord is 87p / $1.24, while Overlord II and Raising Hell are £1.74 / $2.49 each Painkiller Collection - £4.49 / $4.99
- Overdose and Redemption are £1.12 / $1,24, while the original game and Resurrection are £2.24 / $2.49 Penumbra (Collector's Pack) - £3.99 / $4.99 Plants vs. Zombies GOTY edition - £3.49 / $4.99 Railworks 3 & Trains vs Zombies DLC - £13.99 / $19.99 Resident Evil 5 - £6.99 / $9.99 RIP Trilogy - 75p / $1.25 Rock of Ages - £5.24 / $7.49 SAW - £6.79 / $6.79 (more awesome conversion) Scratches: Director's Cut - £2.72 / $3.40 Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened (Remastered) - £1.74 / $2.49 Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper - £2.99 / $4.99 Silent Hill Homecoming - £10.19 / $13.59 Space Pirates and Zombies (yep, SPaZ) - £7.49 / $11.24 STALKER bundle - £5.74 / $8.74
- Call of Pripyat's £3.24 / $3.74, while Shadow of Chernobyl's £2.49 / $4.99 Terraria - £2.99 / $4.99 Trapped Dead - £3.99 / $4.99 Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - £3.75 / $5 Woody Two-Legs: Attack of the Zombie Pirates - 87p / $1.24 Zombie Bowl-o-Rama - £2.38 / $3.40 Zombie Driver - £1.75 / $2.50 Zombie Pirates - £2.49 / $3.74 Zombie Shooter - 99p / $1.24 Zombie Shooter 2 - £1.47 / $2.49
It's worth noting that not only are the prices different between the UK and US, meaning I constantly had to flip between a webpage on US settings and my actual Steam browser, but the order in which the game appears was completely different.
So not only have I had to type up the list by hand, I've also had to alphabetize it and then go through god knows how much effort just to get the prices right. I hope you lot appreciate this!
I'll just post the good ones for the Halloween sale:
Amnesia: Dark Descent - €3
That will be all.
not so fast. There is at least the Penumbra pack, Scratches (which is actually on my wishlist), The Left 4 Dead games, a ton of real adventure games (Nancy Drew, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes x 2, but most of them are mediocre at best). Terraria, Bioshock 2. That list is endless. Almost endless.
($1 off Cthulu Saves the World is hardly compelling)
It's down to $2. Can't expect much more than that. And on the plus side, it's hard to kick myself for not having waited a few days to buy it when I only would've saved a dollar.
Well, I already own the Bioshocks, Atom Zombie Smasher, Cthulhu Save the World, the Penumbra pack, and Bloodlines, so really, the most compelling things for me are Terraria, Plants vs. Zombies, and maybe Amnesia. I'd be considering Resident Evil 5 if 1. I hadn't heard that the PC version was terrible, and 2. I didn't have the option of getting it on Xbox now.
Terraria I do reccomend with over 80 hours played.
Also, I see some reccomendations of painkiller, I know its a shooter(with a gun with shurikens and lightning according to yahtzee), but perhaps a bit more descriptive on what it is? What kind of modes is there?

If you want a shooter that feels like Quake but with better graphics this is it. Nothing more nothing less but still great fun. But you seriously only need on of the games.

Oh its 4 different games. Thought it was 1 game 3 DLC. So which one would be the best?

It's dirt-cheap even without the discount. Especially since it's a pack with 2 games.
What I meant was that a dollar off wouldn't make me think I'd have to buy it right away rather than wait on it for whatever reason. It's cheap already, it's an amazing price already, I actually own it at full price myself, but if I didn't own it then I wouldn't feel more compelled to buy it than usual for a $1 cost difference.
Oh its 4 different games. Thought it was 1 game 3 DLC. So which one would be the best?
The original. The others were made by other people and are nowhere near as good. Hell, Overdose was a fan-made mod given a full retail release, and it's Damnation all over again - it just doesn't hold up. At all. The ones that came after it are no better.
The original game was a great run-and-gun shooter that got rid of all the keycard hunts, crouching behind cover and regenerating health shooters have now and just focused on being a classic shooter, and it's great fun. If you're interested, it's called Painkiller Black in this pack, since it's the original and its official add-on packaged into one.
I wouldn't bother with the rest unless you're a die-hard fan and are desperate for more, but even then you're likely to end up disappointed.
The two games I see out of that which I might want are the Ghostbusters games. Does anyone here have an opinion about them?
I haven't played Sanctum of Slime (though I hear it's quite fun), but the 'The Video Game' is actually pretty good. It's sort of like Gears of War without the wall-hugging aspect. And no blood.

If you're interested, just get the first (it's called Painkiller Black in this pack, since it's the original and its official add-on packaged into one).
So black edition? Got it. And I saw "fanmade mod" as in this game has mod support? And also, my favorite mode for these types of games is survival.(as in how long can you live) is that in this game as well/is there a mod for it?

Try Painkiller Zone. Best fan-site I've found that deals with mods.
Unfortunately I don't know much about the multiplayer, but I'd guess it's pretty basic - probably no Survivor.
I would get Painkiller Black but I have no idea what version of the game I would get if I buy it from Germany. We have a version with green blood and the last thing I need is that one.
Resurrection already states low violence Version "only available in German language (this one has light blue blood, that's a nice change of colour. Okay it isn't. And I would never play this if I cannot play in English)
So I tried out the new free spiral knights stuff. The pumpkin accesory is nice but since its linked to armor which you can change RPG style, then you wont have it for long.
Tried getting some candy and wound up facing one of the bosses and wasting 3 minitanks(thanks to rushing in and advertising to all of my steam friends) just to get killed anyway. It was the dark creature that you have to ring the gong to stun. The stupid thing would be right next to the gong and not get stunned.
Hey, remember that indie bundle with Sanctum in it? The one that gave a piece of DLC for every ten thousand bundles that sold? Yeah, we have to buy 70,000 for the third piece. 'cause that seems fair.

Well thats stupid. If they said every 10,000 then that is what it should be.
Of course the sanctum DLC is worth it(or rather the maps are)
Apparently, there was a disagreement between the Royale people and the Sanctum makers in terms of the pacing for DLC unlocking. Hence why it's now at 70k for the next one. They've mentioned you can get a refund if you want one due to the change.
I didn't realise Gemini Rue was in the bundle as well. Def gonna pick it up while it's cheap and wait for the teething problems and Gemini Rue Steam release to happen.
Ohhh and erring at a lot of the items in the Halloween sale. if I hadn't have went Christmas shopping this week i'd be snapping up a quare few items!
The two games I see out of that which I might want are the Ghostbusters games. Does anyone here have an opinion about them?
The main Ghostbusters game is a solid 6/10 affair. Nothing special but it's all serviceable and it's great to hear the original cast. Dan Ackroyd's really good in this, though Bill Murray mumbles nearly every last line. Be sure to turn your volume up.
Sanctum of Slime I haven't played, I read somewhere it was a bit poo though.
Yeah guys. I wouldnt be refunding the pack though. As I said Sanctum is well worth it(and DLC if this thing works out). And the others Ive never played so I can't say much on them.
Games 4 games. And I don't think Europe has the best prices on anything.
Not really, no. At best, we only save around 75p (Dead Island, FEAR 3, Haunted House, Resident Evil 5), but most of the time we get to pay more than Americans. Just like with everything else!
If there's any particularly poor conversions, or indeed any games that haven't been converted at all, then I tend to point them out (as I did with the big ol' list), partly to let people know they're being ripped off but mostly because I'm petty.
GOG has released their Halloween sale as well. Everything's 50% off. For the adventure fan, there are the Gabriel Knight games, Scratches: Director's Cut, Phantasmagoria 1 and 2, and Sanitarium. The sale also contains Realms of the Haunting(weird Adventure/Shooter mash-up), Litil Divil, Ghost Master, the Vampire: Masquerade video game known mostly as "the bad one", and Shadowgrounds for some reason(why is that even sold here?).

And just in case anyone missed der kertzer's post, Gemini Rue Steam keys will be added to the bundle.
yes you can.

Today's Daily Deal is Midnight Mysteries - The Edgar Allen Poe Conspiracy. It's a hidden object adventure game. £1.50 / $2.50

It brought him some happiness.
Shame they are Windows only at the moment, (as he for some strange reason hates windows), and not on linux.
(He's planning to switch)
But at least he can always dual boot. So he'll get some fun in the end.
EDIT: You know, gifting people things always feels great.
Especially when those people will really appreciate it.
