Yes, he's finally doing this. I'm pumped. I'm going to pledge to this sometime next week. I even made a picture to get the word out about this.
I remember him talking about doing a Kickstarter for it at Dragon*Con two and a half years ago, and I'm sure that wasn't the first time he had ever said anything about it.
I guess he decided to wait until the time was right to use Kickstarter. Since most cartoonists(like John K, Nick Cross, Ed and Zak, and Lauren Faust) are using kickstarter to fund their projects. Looks like Ralph picked the right time to join in.
EDIT: Just to clarify - in the video he's talking about creating what is essentially a Platformer Creation Tool.
In actuality it's more like he's going to make the base game (Super Spaceship Club) and then release the editor/mod tools, allowing people to create their own levels or TCs for that game, at the same time.
I agree. I'm backing the one for sure. I loved Commander Keen, and I still break out Commander Genius to play a bit of a fan-enhanced version of the original trilogy from time to time.
Sweet. There's been several articles about the Kickstarter project in Norwegian media the last few days, but I didn't expect it to show up so soon, since there was no mention of a specific date. Tørnquist is such a tease.
It feels a bit wrong to pay $15 to get a DVD copy shipped from the US to Norway though.
I won't say it's definitely going to make it, but the pledged amount has increased with $50 000 in a little more than an hour, so it's looking promising at least.
I'm a bit ambivalent about this kickstarter: I'm of course extremely psyched about potentially getting to revisit Arcadia and Marcuria. On the other hand I never finished Dreamfall, since I really, really hated the seriously broken fighting elements, and I do feel like I have to force myself through it before I can play the new game.
Given how recent 'big-budget' Kickstarter projects have been going, I have my doubts.
Yeah, so do I. The first 24 hours are of utmost importance. If they haven't got at LEAST half of what they want, I guess the chances of success are massively diminished. Let's see what happens when the entirety of the USA is actually awake.

No need for ambivalence there. This out of Ragnars mouth immediately after D:C was announced:
"There are a lot of areas we can improve in. One is to get rid of the horrifyingly bad combat system. It never became what it was supposed to and we had to rush it out and it failed on all accounts. Luckily we were able to avoid using it most of the time. That's the first thing to go.
I encountered the same reservation in my German forum. Well, we could say: Serves Ragnar right that his six year old sins now come to haunt him. But the fact still stands that he has seen the error of his ways in this respect without any doubt. Chapters will be more Longest Journey and less Dreamfall, whatever the name.
Yeah, I know and I'm happy about that. It doesn't fix the previous game though. I might try to play through it again, but I'm afraid I'll just give up and resort to a playthrough for the story.

As of right now, they're a quarter there. I can actually see this happening.

It's certainly promising. But you'll have to reckon that this is a franchise of die hard fans who would pour their money in IMMEDIATELY. I'm really not so sure who's left after day one to back this.

It only needs $400,000 now, and there's 28 days left. That should be doable by casual fans, general adventure fans, and even just people who like supporting kickstarters in general.

It IS doable. Still, as predicted, compared to yesterday the kickstarter is crawling today...
Apparently any day now a new Kickstarter will be launched by Himalaya Studios (also known as "AGD Interactive") for their hi-res QFG-style Mage's Initiation game:
No doubt you're all already familiar with these guys, who have been putting out adventure games since before Telltale existed. Their popular, free Sierra game remakes have won tons of awards and have inspired many adventure game indie teams over the last ten years, even when things looked bleak for the genre.
Remember, Ragnar Tørnquist would bathe in your money a full 19 days before he sees even a dime of those ordinary backers' dough. For unknown reasons, you'd still be called a "slacker backer" though.

Especially given that Worlds of Wander seems more like mod tools than an actual Platformer Creator.
I hesitated in posting this here but some of you suggested this over and over so here it is:

It's a brand new series I am working on, Episode 1 is already out! Let me know if you like it and, maybe, share a dollar if you can
Thank you!
Check out Cryamore. It's already funded, but if it gets more funding, it'll get console support.

Compared to the 5 to 6 million Dreamfall cost it's not much. Makes the $270 000 they got from the Norwegian Film Institute seem like small change.
But hey ho. We'll see.

EDIT: I just pledged $25.

DoubleFine had... 87 thousand. Wow.
Obsidian had... 74 thousand (give or take a dozen). Bloody hell.
Shadowrun had... 36 thousand. Not bad at all.
Broken Sword had... 18 thousand. For the amount of money they got, that's none too shabby!
Grim Dawn had... 12 thousand. Hmm... Dreamfall'll have to beat that at least.
SpaceVenture had... 10 thousand. Was that all? Could have sworn they had more.
Jane Jenson had... 5,800. Kinda surprised she actually made it.
...
It's not doing too badly, all told. And by comparison, Worlds of Wander has...
...787. Oh dear. That's not looking good at all.
Well, what do they expect? It's a 2D, Indie version of Little Big Planet.
I agree, and it's a lot of money they're asking for.
I'm not saying there isn't a place for that, of course. Just... not like this.
ON A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TOPIC.
So, Dreamfall Chapters has got the original voice actress for April Ryan on board. This makes me happy in a multitude of ways.
score!!!
You know what, as soon as I finish the Trillby series, I'm doing the Longest Journey series as a celebration Let's Play.
Today's awesome update confirms that backers will get separate keys for Steam, GOG, and Desura with their pledge!
Check out their page and all the great details, videos, and the playable demo. This game is going to be one of the scariest ever!
Yeah but it'll be worth it when it does come. Or at least, it better be!
