GOG has a Facebook giveaway going on now. Enter here for a chance to win one of three copies of the Quest for Glory collection. Anyone who doesn't have this, you have 9 hours to enter.
This is very much a "rainy afternoon" game. In that you can finish it in the span of a rainy afternoon.
A rather long rainy afternoon then. I spent 8 hours on it, including Grubbins on Ice. It's rather simple gameplay wise, but the delivery is solid and I had a really good time playing it.
Went to bed one hour after bedtime because of it yesterday.
So, I think the length is absolutely adequate. A longer game should have a different tone. For what CQ wants to achieve, the (RELATIVELY!!) light weight in measured game time is good to perfect.
I miss the possibility of light farming a bit, which is impossible in the game. The lack of actual level-up choices also adds to a railroaded experience. The different kids lack actual individuality. You don't configure much, you just collect everything. For an "RPG", that's a bit disappointing. I hope they will at least let me assign TWO stamps per kid later on. For a bit more individualization, that's kinda the minimum.
The battles look EXCELLENT to say the least. I get a real motivation kick whenever I find a new costume. And I've read that the really interesting costumes are only in the DLC! Imma keep playing this.
Shadow Warrior's actually quite fun, if not quite as good as Blood or Duke 3D. I don't know about Terminal Velocity.
I vaguely recall Terminal Velocity, or at least the demo for it, being pretty good. However, what it REALLY makes me do is wish that Epic was on GOG. I want to give you my money for Radix, but you're making that too hard, Epic.
Edit: So it turns out that Epic IS on GOG. I hadn't really noticed since they only dropped off their Unreal Tournament games and DIDN'T RELEASE ANYTHING THAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANTED!
I apologize in advance for that joke. In addition to the sale, Perimiter and Soldiers, a pair of games recently delisted from GOG, are back on sale and part of this deal.
Edit: Speaking of catalogue alterations, the new deal from Interplay is officially in effect, and the following packages have gone UP in price: Descent 1/2, Descent 3, Earthworm Jim 1/2, F/A-18E Super Hornet, Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Freespace 2, Giants: Citizens Kabuto, Kingpin: Life of Crime, Messiah and Sacrifice. Very odd, considering Redneck Rampage and MDK, two series they said would see a price increase, didn't go up. Also, why not the original Freespace and Earthworm Jim 3D? Why am I complaining about this?
Finished Costume Quest and the GoI DLC. Grubbins on Ice was especially fine, but ultra short. Also, it's level cap at 14 (and they're starting out with 10), so not much going on in that respect also. This game gets a "very nice" from me, and they're really giving old ideas a new touch. I'm not sure the motivation could have been so high if the game was significantly longer...
Ahh mondays... I figured I'd get today off from talking about GOG stuff. Hahaha, denied! Facebook giveaway time, this week it's Alone in the Dark. Enter at this link.
Got a super massive haul of stuff from GOG today. Get the historical strategy game Imperialism for only $5.99. Get the Zelda/Ultima inspired indie game The Real Texas for the launch price of $8.99. Lastly, you can pre-order Primordia, another pixelated point and click adventure published by Wadjet Eye Games, for the special pre-order price of $7.99 until the game launches on December 5th. That's it for releases, but there's a special sale going on. GOG is running a "Pick 5, Pay 10" sale, where you pick 5 games from a list of 20 and pay only 10 bucks for them. The catch is that all the games listed are indie games so... yeah, YMMV on your interest level on some of this stuff.
I asked gog.com yesterday if they'd finally have the Stranger's Wrath HD update up some time in the near future (something the Steamites have enjoyed for quite some time now). No answer yet...
Somebody remind me to get Primordia when I get paid at the end of the week...
(It looks low budget, but the art design is interesting so I'll bite at that price)
Personally, I'm getting Resonance, To the Moon, Blackwell, and Unmechanichal. Any idea for the fifth game I should get? I'm leaning toward either Geneforge or Alan Wake.
Double new, indie game releases today on GOG. Pick up the old-school, 2D pixel art platformer Snapshot for the launch price of $4.99, or the old-school, 2D hand drawn point-and-click adventure The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav for the launch price of $14.99.
I wanted to get Dark Eye Steam free - but it's only available with the English dub, not the original German language. I will have to think a bit on that.

At least they don't charge you 40€ on GoG.
If you can play a demo first. This is not really a good game. Worth it for 15$ though.
Also: The English version is good.

But I actually thought I was in another thread when I aided the derailment. I apologize.
Nice going, Double Fine. And FINALLY, something new and shiny for me to play.
Don't forget Warlord's Battlecry 2 for $5.99.
But Costume Quest... let's see if there's a new love story there.

Disclaimer: Not actually sure if these games are well loved and fondly remembered.

According to GOG, yes.

...and I own everything else of interest. Hmmm.

Update: The fine community folks at gog have linked me to a tidbit of info I was looking forward to a lot these last months.

Stranger's Wrath HD update on gog expected in January. Hmmmmmm.
Looks nice and has an interesting little mechanic.
(Plus I love platformers! XD)
