I'm guessing it's from a deleted scene? I never got round to watching those.
  • edited June 2013
It's from the blooper reel. Same for the other gif.

In the first gif I showed, it's a blooper from where Tony Stark leads one of the giant flying tank-dinos to the group. Ruffalo, instead of doing the "I'm always angry" line, just said, "Dudes, you're on your own!" and legged it.

Which was, oddly enough, a far more Banner-appropriate response.

I must watch this so-called "Blooper Reel".
  • edited June 2013
It's pretty brilliant. You could tell that everyone there got along pretty well, because you don't have bloopers like these in a cast with poor synergy.

There's also an amazing one where Tom Hiddleston does his impression of how Alan Rickman would play Loki.

YouTube'd it. 'tis indeed a lot of fun.

Considering he's appeared in two films now, I'm guessing he's here for the long run.

Sorry, slight spoiler there. My bad.

Not when he signed a two-film contract it's not.
  • edited June 2013
I thought he signed a six film contract?

Also, his second appearance was kinda a last minute thing. Like he and Robert Downey Jr. hung out after the Oscars and RDJ was like "Hey dude, wanna be in an after credits thing for Iron Man 3" and Ruffalo was like "Fuck yeah!" and then the next week they met up, shot for an hour and were done.

So, what issues of the comics approximate out to the five episode "Phoenix Saga" from the X-Men cartoon?
  • edited June 2013
It's been a while since I watched the cartoon, so lemme refresh my memory.

OK, the plain Phoenix saga was The X-Men #101-108, while the Dark Phoenix saga was Uncanny X-Men #129-137.

    From Wikipedia:
The entire saga of the Phoenix is retold and adapted in the third season of the X-Men animated series, subdivided into the five-part "Phoenix Saga", in which Jean acquires the power of the Phoenix and the battle for the M'Kraan Crystal occurs, and the "Dark Phoenix Saga", showcasing the battle with the Hellfire Club, the Phoenix Force's transformation into Dark Phoenix, and the battle to decide her fate.

These particular episodes are as close as the cartoon came to directly duplicating the comic book storylines — the "Dark Phoenix Saga" is so accurate to the original stories that the episodes have the additional credit, "Based on stories by Chris Claremont".

Notably, however, as the Phoenix Force retcon had occurred before the creation of the series, the episodes were made with this change in mind — rather than having Jean develop her powers independently (as was the original intent of the comics), or be replaced by the cosmic Phoenix Force entity (as events were later retconned), the two concepts were merged, into Jean's actual body being possessed by the Phoenix Force, leading to a true struggle between two independent entities.

Jean is shown piloting a shuttle, and when her telekenetic shield fails Phoenix enters her body. Rather than destroying an inhabited system — which was the cause for the decision to kill off the character in the comics — the animated story had her destroy a deserted system and only disable the attacking Shi'Ar cruiser. These changes made it possible for aspects of the original ending of Uncanny X-Men #137, in which Jean survives, to be used.

Jean does still commit suicide (taking control of the Shi'Ar's laser beam to fire on herself, rather than finding an ancient weapon), but with her death, the Phoenix Force is purified, and then uses its powers to resurrect Jean, drawing on the combined life-force of the assembled X-Men to bring her back to life. Jean retained her original basic powers, whereas in the aborted comic book ending, she would have been lobotomized by the Shi'Ar and lost them entirely.

OK, thank you. Now to wait for this stuff to crop up on Comixology.

The title of Avengers 2 is "Avengers: Age of Ultron"!
  • edited July 2013
Because that's not stupid at all.
  • edited July 2013
So... what happened to Thanos? Did he get bumped in favor of doing a movie adaptation of a so-so event comic? Did we just incorrectly assume that Thanos would be the villain of Avengers 2, when he'll really be the villain of Guardians of the Galaxy? Am I the only one who's kind of looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy? Am I just asking random questions for the sake of filling out this post?
  • edited July 2013
Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be one of the weirdest movies I'll ever see.

I'm guessing Thanos will be Avengers 3. Joss Whedon has always said he wanted the secend film to be a more personal one, and Thanos is hardly that. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The big problem being that Age of Ultron kind of name-drops Ultron, a major and extremely boring recurring Marvel Universe villain.

Fawful - 'Whatever's On Your Mind' thread, if you would.

Dashing - Ultron has an interesting concept, and he's had some very interesting plots in the past, but I agree, he's not the most interesting character per se. That said, I have a lot of faith of Whedon, so...

Ultron has a crappy look, worse then the Cybermen. I hope they do a rehull on his look to make him look credible.
  • edited July 2013
I was talking with Fawful earlier about the use of Ultron, and personally, I'm of the opinion that Ultron will be JARVIS on evil steroids. I called this way back, actually. I mean, if you look at the trend, JARVIS has been increasingly unreliable and been showing signs of sentience in addition to having the ability to be downloaded into fully operational mobile platforms (Iron Man suits). In addition, Tony Stark, with the Extremis add-on, can now probably operate the suits manually without JARVIS's input.

Since JARVIS isn't necessary for Iron Man to be functional, this frees him up to be a villain. Since he has access to tons of sensitive information, including information on all the heroes, this makes him a dangerous villain. And since everyone trusts him and knows him, it will probably take a lot longer for anyone to figure it out.

Also, Whedon mentioned wanting to make Avengers 2 a bit more personal. Having watched a lot of Whedon shows/movies, he really likes to make use of Big Bads that are established characters, which makes sense because then their motivations can flow more easily. And when you want to do personal, there really is no better way than to have the enemy be someone who knows the protagonists inside and out.
  • edited July 2013
Yeah, I remember you initially talking about that. Sounds like a solid idea.

Also: hey, Cobie Smulders is in Agents of SHIELD now.

We've known that since the first teaser, where her voice very clearly can be heard(though she is obviously "hidden" to not spoil a later "reveal", watch it again and pay close attention). Her voice is pretty distinctive, especially to people like me who have a nasty sitcom addiction and have watched HIMYM episodes roughly 5 times each.

First look at Guardians of the Galaxy!

EDIT: Sorry, my bad. What I meant was "Read about what happens in the first clip from Guardians of the Galaxy".

    There's a sort-of spoiler in there too -
Thanos is in GotG. So that's why he's not in Avengers 2!

    RIP Karen Gillan's hair.
  • edited July 2013
Whatever. Just sheeple screaming and creaming themselves over an actor playing a comic book character. That's all I can feel about this for some reason.
  • edited July 2013
Eh, I would have probably been screaming, too. Because when you're there, it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement.

Also, he looked like he was enjoying himself. So, you know, it's hard not to feel happy for people having fun.

  • edited July 2013
Okay, I suppose it also depends on who is having fun and what they are having fun doing. Though, this is probably why I don't like professional sports that much. None of the players look like they're enjoying themselves.

Also, I think my lyrics scan better.

I'm only wondering but what is everyone's favourite Spider-Man movie? Personally mine is Spider-Man 2 with Amazing Spider-Man in a close second although I might have to rewatch Spider-Man 1.

Spider-Man 2 had a great story, It had some great acting although the actors made a lot of funny faces in the movie. I liked the music as well. Doc Ock was done very well in Spider-Man 2 as well.
  • edited July 2013
Spider-Man has yet to get a single good movie.

    Not even one.

He's my favorite superhero and they NEVER get him right.
