I'd never do something I hate, but the advice I got here was great. Not to mention the suggestions to begin with.
And I know when you work on something for a while, you might not notice when something is off, so I was just wondering if there was a problem I couldn't see with the flame I had made.

Anyway, I'm resting up, then I'll work on the narwhal. Then I'll see about making Abe's head. Oh, and Rather Dashing, you might want to get me full front - and, if available, back - views of the character Rather Dashing if you want me to knit him.

Couldn't you just boot up Peasant's Quest and use the arrow keys to get a look at him at every conceivable angle? And also play the game, since it's excellent?

I didn't realise that game actually existed. I might do that if I can be bothered.

    I hate when that happens.

(^ I'm pretty sure someone more awesome than me said that, but I can't remember who.)

    I think I did.

The finished product is gonna be so cool.

Also, fun fact: did you know that a Narwhal's horn is actually made up of the bones of the animals they ingest? As they grow older and eat more, the bone matter from what they eat is forced straight up to their head in order to add to their horn. That's not true.

Aha! I didn't believe you because I know it's actually a tooth from their upper jaw, and not a horn.
    SO THERE!

Narwhals don't have upper jaws. Upper jaws don't exist. LOOKS LIKE I WIN THIS ROUND!

Mine wasn't a lie/joke. Just in case you thought it was.

Hey, I research the stuff I knit, who do you take me for? :p
  • edited April 2010
Yeah, I googled it to find out if it was true. I was actually just being nitpicky. Whenever someone talks about their upper jaw I always say "what, your skull?" because I'm such an all-round great guy.

Skulls are made of 22 bones, including the upper jaw. The lower jaw is also part of the skull, incidentally, without the lower jaw (or "mandible") it's called a cranium.

EDIT: okay, not the best picture ever to show all 22 bones, but at least you see the upper and lower jaws, which is what matters in this specific case.

So, I tried a screaming expression but it didn't work out.
Then I thought, screw it! (not the narwhal). I decided to do it the way Majus did. Even though it doesn't look like a narwhal, but a unicorned walrus.
But that's my model after all, might as well respect that rather than reality.

    Also, it looks neat.

Now, I'm going to make the rope to tie it to the rocket. Then it will all be about putting everything together, and I'll be done!

That is so awesome! It even has white eyes, I’m totally freaking out.

Haha, I made Majus freak out :D

I made a rope and tied it around the thing, but haven't sewn it in place yet. I'm trying to see if people think it works of if it stills needs changes. Once the narwhal's secured on the rocket, I might be unable to separate them again without damaging the whole thing.
So if you think anything should be changed, now's the time to speak up!

All I want to do is play with it now! VoooOOOOOshhh!
(I'm so glad the narwhal isn't strapped to a giant, red, flaming penis.)

my internet is too slow to load the images, but it sounds like this is awesome!

    This is perfect dude.
Man, even the facial expression is the same.
    The best.

This reminds me of the notes on my personal file at the hospital. Only replace "flaming" with "inflamed". And "giant" with "bruised".

Anyway, awesome work Avistew! What are you planning on doing next? Maybe a three-headed monkey to keep him/her company? Does it have a name?

I'm probably going to try working on Abe's head. But don't hold your breath, I'm already thinking about the nightmares it will give me. It should take a while.
Majus designed the narwhal, so I think Majus should name it/him/her. Seems only fair. Until then it's just a screaming narwhal tied to a giant rocket.

Why don't you just name it Majus?

I love how matter-of-factly you put this. What, has the narwhal's name always been Phil? Are there rough plans for the animation that say "Guybrush threepwood lights the rocket, Phil goes flying. Cut to sky. Phil is flying. Phil is also making an amusing sound I assume is narwhal-ish. Cut to boat..." etc?

Oh avistew, that's so gorgeous!! I love the face.
  • edited April 2010
avistew, you really need to make these available for sale. Or just sell me one, whatever, as long as I have a scared uniwalrus for myself, that's all that matters :D

Also, you should totally make Thebugthebug. He's the most awesome character created since the creation of character creation. And he barely even looks like penis!
  • edited April 2010
OOOh, the bug (THE BUG) is a good suggestion. I'm running into trouble finding the right colour for Abe (I'm looking for an off-right rather than bright white.) so maybe I'll make the bug first.
Let me just check if I have the right colours, and read back on other suggestions to see if there is one I prefer.
