The character models and shrubs actually look clearer than in the real game but I don't think the original backgrounds were that fuzzy. I admit it's been a while since I pulled out my 64 though :o
  • edited April 2011
Since the some of the backgrounds were pre-rendered, they were pretty much resolution bound. So the higher the resolution you play the original Ocarina of Time in, the fuzzyer the background gets.
  • edited April 2011
That would also explain why the character models look so much nicer :D

Even in the best conditions, Castle Rown was fuzzy.
  • edited April 2011
Oh, wow. Castle Town looks amazing.

    ...

I am so not updating the Mask Shop in my sprited version. It was hard enough the first time.
  • edited April 2011
You probably don't remember castle town looking fuzzy because you originally played it on a standard-definition TV where pretty much everything was exactly that fuzzy. Your eyes adapt to that.

Now, will the camera be free?

I don't think so. I believe they're keeping the cameras locked as they were so that it still feels the same way it always has.

Really? Drat. Windwaker and majora's mask got the camera down fantastically. I loved being able to look around freely.

If we're lucky, maybe they'll at least enable first-person camera in Castle Town.

Moving the discussion away from Zelda for a moment, Miyamoto said he hopes to release Super Mario for 3DS by the end of this year. It would be truly awesome if they pulled it off :D

They should've made it a release title, like they used to do.

I can't remember the last time Nintendo had a single decent title at a system's release. Twilight Princess doesn't count because it was developed for GameCube and held back for the Wii.
  • edited April 2011
Yeah, the last time was with Gamecube, I think.
Luigi's Mansion was a pretty good game, although it wasn't perfect.
It was the last Mario related release game though.

Luigi's Mansion, Pilot Wings, and Steel Diver.

Pilot Wings is not a "decent" release game.
It's a spin off of Wii Sports Resort with a different title and the same area.
Steel Diver isn't a release title (although not in Europe and Japan) and definitely not a "big" title like a Mario or Zelda game.
It's more like an Iphone game ported to 3DS.

I was hoping someone would mention Nintendogs so I could tear into them (the first one was like having a Giga Pet but without the consequences or chance of failure if you neglect the thing, and I got bored with it far more quickly), but since you mentioned Pilotwings and Steel Diver, I can only respond with a resounding "meh".
  • edited April 2011
You asked for "decent" titles, not great ones. I'd say Pilotwings is the very definition of a decent game. Luigi's Mansion was decent too, really. I'll agree that they haven't launched a system with a great game since the N64 if you don't count Twilight Princess.

Nintendogs wasn't a launch game though (not that I care for it much).

In more important news, Megaman Legends 3 Prototype version!
    http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2011/04/21/announcing_mega_man_legends_3:_prototype_version

I need to get some Nintendo Points now.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention yesterday, operation "convince my parents to get me a 3DS as an advanced birthday present" has been a complete success :D
Could only get one of the 2 games I wanted though.

    Awesome!

Basicaly. Excitebike 3d will be free on the eshop.

Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is most likely being ported to the 3DS. Unlike the article's writer, however, I'm excited about this. I enjoyed the Gamecube Pokemon games.
  • edited April 2011
But...that doesn't even make sense... I loved the GameCube Pokemon games (though I need to finish XD still), but I can't imagine how it makes sense to put it on the 3DS.
  • edited April 2011
Yeah, pretty much the only good reason the GC games existed was to get the pokemon that were unavailable for Gen 3 at that time, now there's no reason at all =/ At least if it was Colosseum it'd have the awesome protagonist, but it isn't.
  • edited April 2011
I'm sure they have their reasons. Maybe they'll update it with the new Pokemon? Maybe it's just to show off that the Wii can pull off Gamecube games? If so, Nintendo, GIMME LUIGI'S MANSION.
  • edited April 2011
Miyamoto pretty much confirmed Luigi's Mansion when he said they were working on 3ds tech suited to a game with ghosts, and that he adores ghost stories.

FAWFUL GET LEGENDS 3 PROTOTYPE IF YOU WANT LEGENDS 3 TO BE ALLOWED TO BE MADE

Seriously, I know it's not the developers intention since they want to make the game as much as we want them to do it, but being told that if we don't buy it the game won't be greenlit feels like they're taking it hostage =/

Oh, and never thought that way about the comment about a ghost game. I still would rather have it on the Wii, but this will certainly do. Next objective, Pokemon Snap 3DS!

    Maybe it's a sequel to Geist? :D

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Those sly bastards. what a way to sell 3DS's. :(

Also, Luigi's Mansion's been pretty much hinted at a couple times before on 3DS. Geist would be a huge surprise.

Woo! Just got my first streetpass hit that isnt my sister!

Yeah. I was excited when I got mine too. I was at Fry's when I got two people who one had the missing puzzle piece I needed for the Mario, Luigi, and Bowser puzzle/trophy. Then I tagged someone at school today for the first time. Been walking around with it every day at my Uni since launch, and other then my one friend, tagged no one untill today.
  • edited April 2011
My only tag so far is the Best Buy demo station, and I doubt that'll change anytime soon with how much the thing costs here =(

Most people here think it's just another DS revision and not a new console. I know a few people here who think they can run OOT remake on their DSlites. They already have it pre-ordered. I'm going to let them find out on their own.

Record their reactions and upload them to youtube :D

Yeah, I want to be able to replay the second their heart breaks whenever I want.

If I hung around 'em perhaps I would. They're just annoying classmates of mine who think they know everything about programming but can't seem to do any of the programming assignments and think they're ontop of everything gaming. I don't believe they even know of the PSN hack yet.

How many of them will attempt to saw through the sticky out bit at the top to make it fit in the DS? :D
  • edited April 2011
Yeah you could show them that and they should figure it out.
Or better yet show them the box where it says "3ds" and not "DS".
Or just wait for their reactions there.
Another thing to do would be to show them pics of the resident evil games. My friends figured it out there when they figured out there is no way a DS can pull that off.

I'm loving mine so far. The lanch lineup? Not so much. The system itself is pretty awesome.

I'm still holding out hope that Curse of Monkey Island Special Edition will be on the 3DS. I know how improbable it is.

That might be worth a purchase if they update it with all the new Pokemon and moves. They'd better keep making the main series though; here's hoping they upgrade to proper 3D (and not the 3DS 3D, I'm talking about the kind of 3D we used to get excited for in 1995 ;)).

Yes, that is fantastic. I already own BEAT and RUNNER but still definitely going to pick that up.
