Fortunately, the cracks in Amy's wall has erased this from history, and sent the Doctor plunging into the "Star Trek" universe instead. Instead of David Tennant carrying the torch on whatever-day-that was, Matt Smith had a go.... and now Patrick Stewart has as well!

    (See? "Assimilation2" IS canon!)

The second time reporting something like this in two pages, but Mary Tamm's died at the age of 62. :(

I read that earlier this morning. The first I heard of it was on a tweet from Colin Baker. Very sad indeed. Yet another one succumbed to cancer.

"Good as Gold" not withstanding, we didn't *see* the Doctor at the Olympics last night -

I was very disappointed that it didn't make it in. It's something that is quintessentially British television, and now more than ever has an international audience. I'm glad to hear that they at least planned to have something more in it, but it's sad that it was cut.

At least the 60's dancers had Dalek dresses. Sort of. Sigh.

We got the TARDIS noise. That made me happy.

also, we got James Bond reporting to the Queen. I think that trumps anything Doctor Who could have done.

Mary Poppins chasing after Daleks? Red, White and Blue ones?

There'll be a new trailer in the wee hours of the morning too. Show's coming back this month!

Trailer's bit on the dull side, I thought.

    Thanks!

OK, so.. uh. Looks fine to me. Only thing I didn't like was
River Song... A-FUCKING-GAIN. The character (and the actress) bug the shit out of me, so seeing her again was NOT nice. Nicely appropriate tag though!
    Otherwise it all seemed interesting.

Does anyone else find Amy a little bit annoying these days, or is it just me?

I actually quite like her. She's a companion with something new to bring to the role. I think too many consecutive episodes might kill the character, but I think there's still a story to be told. And she has to be around for the fall of the ponds to create dramatic scenes so everyone can win BAFTA's :-P

Trailer was... meh. Not the best, not the worst. Althoug' saying that, I've watched it 3 times so far... I just really hope Autumn is a misspelling for August!

I personally love all the doctors. Each has their own personality, and their little charms.

Well, that'd be awesome. The article does say that it'd only what Matt Smith thinks, but yeah. AWESOME.

Yeah, at least they weren't the rainbow colored ones. I'd like to think those have been retconned. They ran off and got killed by "real" Daleks.

I liked the RTD Daleks much more indimdating then the Moffet Power Ranger ones.
  • edited August 2012
The other potential reason for going back (primarily) to the RTD daleks (as the New Paradigm are now the 'high-ranking' daleks) is that Karen Gillan's leaving, and the Daleks were designed to be eye-level with her (somewhat ironic, as they've yet to share screen time!) and she is a giant and Jenna-Louise Coleman is notably shorter..

It wasn't for her, it was so they were the same height as Matt Smith. Who's still stupidly tall, so no luck there.

No, it's to the companion. Same happened with Billie Piper (who is average height, so it wasn't so noticable).

Really? Could have sworn it was Matt... Oh well.

It would make more sense if it was Matt, but Confidential said it was Karen.

I actually like the mighty morphin' power daleks. I think if they had the average drone as being Black or grey instead of bright red, it would have been much better though. It makes sense for the others to have different colours, as they each have different skills.

Of course, if they have a military mind, they wouldn't want their leader to be easily identifiable, so it wouldn't be bright white, but hey, it looks cool.

With all these classic Daleks showing up, do you think they will also have that static powered ones? You know, the ones that could be thwarted by a jacket.

"Iconic star" to appear in series, announcement midnight tonight!

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/doctor-who/news/a397434/doctor-who-iconic-star-casting-to-be-revealed-at-midnight.html

Not clear if it is an iconic star of "Doctor Who" (e.g. Tom Baker) or an iconic star of stage and screen (e.g. William Shatner). So long as it's somebody starrier than John Barrowman, which is certain fans' current favourite.

But we have to wait till midnight to learn whether it's the newspaper or the big ball of light. Or maybe it's Matt Smith. He's an iconic star. Has he been confirmed yet?

Also, has it ever been proven that the daleks can't be thwarted by jackets anymore? It would make things a lot easier.

You see, in their first appearance,
they managed to use a jacket to blind a Dalek then they but it on a cape or something to get it off the floor (thus removing it's access to static electricity) and then they took the living part of it out with the same jacket and left it under some thing in the cell they were in
. Though I may have gotten a detail wrong, it's been ages since I saw that serial.

    Hehehe, innuendo.

In other news, I've started watching pokemon (The original series), and I've noticed that the creaky door sound effect is the same as the Tardis door. Coincindence? I THINK NOT.

Dalek! I chose you! Use Flash!

It's Richard E Grant, who previously played the Doctor in the non-canon web series 'Scream of the Shalka'.

Bit underwhelming. I mean, if they wanted somebody from "Withnail & I", why didn't they get Paul McGann?! :D

It must be because he's too busy filming for the 50th anniversary. PROOF.

If they ever make a Lego Doctor Who game (which would be the BEST DOCTOR WHO GAME EVER - not that that'd be particularly hard, given the competition) you just know this will be used in the inevitable disco room.
