Telltale hints at new licensed series - to be revealed next month

edited February 2011 in General Chat
Via NeoGaf:
Telltale is holding a press event next month (FEB 17) to formally unveil Jurassic Park, but the invite also states this:

"In addition to the Jurassic Park game, Telltale will reveal 5 major new multi-platform projects, including one based on a just-launched property from the TV and comic book world whose popularity is changing life as some know it."

Wow! Five new projects? That's awesome! Any thoughts on what the project they hinted at might be? The Walking Dead maybe? After getting the IP for Jurassic Park, I can sense that telltale is testing its waters with a more mature feel and directions, with the usual comedy genre still in play as well.

What do you guys think the other four projects might be?

It wouldn't surprise if "five new projects" is just PR for "five new episodes". Probably not though.

Here's hoping for a doctor who game!
  • edited January 2011
The way that is worded sounds like five new seasons, not episodes. Which is ridiculous.

It's not just 'five new episodes'.

Wow! Way to step your game up, Telltale! I'm guessing there has been an increase of employees at telltale to handle that much work? Either way, I wish you guys the best and can't wait for the February announcement(s)!

I know you can't, due to NDAs and all, but please tell me there's either a ToMI sequel or a continuation of Puzzle Agent in there...

The Walking Dead was my first thought too, but I wouldn't say it's changing anybody's life. Besides, I can't imagine Telltale doing an ultraviolent zombie game.

Sadly, it doesn't fit Scott Pilgrim, either... boo! :p

Any suggestions what this could be? "just launched property"? TV AND comic book?? Actually, I didn't watch TV in the last six months (except for exactly one evening), American series arrive here with mucho delay, and the last time a comic book was "life-changing", if anything, it was Shaun Tan's "The Arrival".

But FIVE PROJECTS, Jesus. Finish BTTF first, and that includes the first episode! ;)

Ignore the changing life bit. That's just PR stuff. I worked in radio and we had to stick in taglines during ads and things like that. Actqlually, considering that Walking Dead is a zombie title...

I want to take a guess and shoot off. The Cape...that's just how my mind works.

Awesome! So, I predict a sequel to Poker night at the inventory (another "at the inventory" game), a second series of Monkey Island, and a doctor who series (pretty please?)

I exactly thought the same thing. The Cape begun last week on TV.
And for the 5 new projects, do you think it is 5 completely new projects or new seasons of existing one?

For the first time in the history of Telltale, I'm not sure what I think of this idea.

I'd rather think it's The Walking Dead. I also hope for Futurama.

I hope this "5 new projects" thing won't mean a decrease in quality of Telltale products.

A The Walking Dead series would be so cool!!! And it makes more sense because the Cape hasn't a real comic book.

"Changing life as some know it" is obviously referring to zombies. If that isn't a hint to The Walking Dead, I will eat...some ice cream.

Can't be The Cape, it has to be a TV AND comic book property. The Cape is its own thing. I'm expecting it to be The Walking Dead. It's the only "just-launched property from the TV and comic book world whose popularity is changing life as some know it". And it would make sense that The Walking Dead is "changing life", too.

    I say Walking Dead.

Which would be awesome, because the series would work well as adventure, as opposed to more action-y types of games, if you've read the comics, at least. Aside from some particular moments where things got a bit out of hand, the rest is pretty slow-going and the whole series is definitely character & story-driven.

It probably means more that Telltale has more employees now, if you ask me. :p

I expect another Sam & Max in the works. And, if the stars are right, maybe another Monkey Island or Strongbad. Maybe. But probably one or two existing franchises among the five, yeah.

OK, I'm TOTALLY unfamiliar with the American TV series landscape at the moment. Is there anyone here who can name ANY "just launched" TV series that also occurs in the comics world BESIDES "The walking Dead" and would lend itself to gaming?
  • edited January 2011
Btw Telltale... Where is my Red Dwarf adventure game?? Where is it? Why don't you make one? You totally should! I'm pretty sure the guys would be happy to do the voices. Come on! That series would be awesome in adventure game format!
  • edited January 2011
Come to think of it nobody has even thought of looking at any cartoon TV shows that might fit the bill on the comic book front.
  • edited January 2011
    1. tales of monkey island season 2
    2. puzzle agent 2
    3. at the inventory game
    4. strong bad season 2
    5. comic book/tv show game
  • edited January 2011
Fun speculation but it just leaves me wondering...
  • edited January 2011
Type "The walking dead telltale" on Google and there are already articles about it. Someone mentioned on the net True Blood but it is too old to be "just launched" and it is too vampiresque :D .
  • edited January 2011
I honestly can't think of anything in recently-launched TV that is also in comics. The only other thing I can think of is Pushing Daisies, which ended during the Writer's Strike but is getting a comic book adaptation. Basically, the inverse of the "old comic, but new TV show" thing that Walking Dead has going for it.

    I hope the projects are:
    1. Sam and Max 4
    2. Monkey Island 2
    3. Puzzle Agent Season
    4. TV/Comic license
    5. ???

    In that order!
  • edited January 2011
I hope sam and max 4 gets announced, I doubt it will but if it does I will proably fall off my chair or something in exitement.

Either way, I look forward to whats coming out as tell tale games are pretty damn fun!

I'm hoping Get Tannen comes before the announcement so I don't get all antsy <_<

    A comic/show with a show/comic adaptation? Let's see...going off what's had recent releases:
    Fringe
    Human Target
    The Walking Dead
    Buffy/Angel
    Witchblade
    Avengers
    Young Justice
Spider-Man (is getting a reboot show)
    True Blood
Firefly (DUDE. This won't happen, but still.)

Actually, the indie-darling Chew has a TV show in development, so I would nerdgasm if TTG was making a game of that kickass comic.

Just because they announce it now doesn't mean it will be so soon. It might not come out until around december.

    Witchblade

Only if it was based on the comic moreso than the TV series though.

Spider-Man (is getting a reboot show)
    It is?
  • edited January 2011
Hmmm, I don't know and I doubt it would ever happen because of all the legal stuff and material being produced today, but, I'm in the mood for another Indiana Jones adventure game.
  • edited January 2011
Never seen any of the anime for Witchblade, so I don't have a clue how it is...

Yes, Spider-Man is unfortunately getting a reboot (I guess to go along with the new movie?) despite already having had an awesome Spectacular Spider-Man series that re-imagined everyone and put Gwen Stacy AND Mary Jane as major characters. >_< But it's carrying over some of the crew behind the 90s Batman series IIRC, so *shrug*.

I'd forget the Marvel games. They have contracts with Activision and SEGA. Activision just gave their developers at Beenox exclusivity to Spider-Man, too, so I wouldn't count on that. Witchblade is hardly recent. Same for Buffy/Angel/Firefly.

The other ones, possibly. I'm still placing my bets on TWD.

Sailor Moon is based on a manga(japanise comic) and has TV adaptation. Its returning in some countrys and possbly getting re-dued maybe TTG is making a Sailor Moon game ^^ (I know its unlikey/impossble:P but I can hope)

The anime is apparently really good, and actually pretty heartfelt, which you could never tell by the borderline hentai artwork. The TV series I don't like the look of is this-

    witchblade_-_the_complete_series_dvd.jpg

It just looks bad. Then again, it was apparently critically acclaimed, so I dunno. That series aired a long time ago though, so it wouldn't count anyway.

The anime for WB is kinda new--and dude, I TOTALLY forgot about the live action show <_<. I only called the Whedon stuff recent in that the comics still have new material coming out (and Firefly had a mediocre comic on Shepard Book a couple months ago).

    I officially can't wait until February 17th.
Because even if I couldn't care less for the new IP, I will honestly eat my sock* if one of those announcements isn't Puzzle Agent, SBCG4AP 2, or Tales 2.

*while I'm confident in this prediction, if by some unholy occurrence it's wrong, do not hold me to that
