It occurs to me that Steam probably doesn't have the Earl Boen version of Narwhal.
  • edited December 2011
No, probably not. But does it really matter? It's half a dozen lines.
  • edited December 2011
On the one hand, Earl Boen is the voice of LeChuck.

On the other hand, it's been so long for Telltale to include the Earl Boen Narwhal in anything but the DVD, that it's a moot point to complain about it now.

But that doesn't encourage me to want the Steam version of he game.

I want an Earl Boen Narwhal.
  • edited December 2011
Quite frankly, I like it as is. When LeChuck is finally revealed to have been evil all along, the game does so in the most awesome way possible - with the one true voice re-emerging to match his body. Brilliant.

Also, replacing the guy who did the voice in Narwhal would seem a little odd to me. Sure, he wasn't Earl Boen, but he didn't do a bad job at all. I liked what he did, and don't see the point in replacing it. It's only a dozen or so lines anyway, it's barely worth it.

It's like Voyager: Elite Force, when they didn't get Jeri Ryan to voice Seven of Nine originally, but replaced the lady who did a (pretty good) impersonation of her in a patch due to actually getting her to do the lines. Sure she was the real deal, but the not-Jeri gave a better performance that I can no longer listen to. :(

...but then, that's just me. And what do I know?*

    *The correct answer is EVERYTHING.

My thoughts exactely. But Nerds were raging and TTG changed it. Good to know that I still have a version without Earl available.

Today's Daily Deal is Limbo. Sorry, LIMBO. £1.75 / $2.50.

Don't forget to visit the blah blah blah.

There you go, fixed that for ya. :p

Also worth mentioning is that PoxNora is available for free. Yup, it costs absolutely nothing and it is completely free to download and play from Steam.
It's apparently some sort of turn-based strategy game, which I love.

Not gonna buiy Limbo. It will be in one of the next bundles I buy anyways. And I have too many stuff to play right now anyways.
  • edited December 2011
So glad to see that LIMBO is one cent more than I paid for it during the autumn sale a couple weeks ago. I'd forgotten what I paid for it, so I was worried I'd jumped the gun on it. It looks amazing, so as it was with VVVVVV, I won't be upset if I end up getting it in an indie bundle later anyway.
  • edited December 2011
Limbo is pretty great. It's short, but what's there is pretty solid. You're paying $2.50 for roughly two to four hours of play. Guru, I think you could probably go through it in an afternoon if you wanted to cross something off your list.
  • edited December 2011
I have yet to play an indie game I can't get through in an afternoon (even with all 20 trinkets in VVVVVV), so that's not really much of a surprise to me.

Yes this. I got so far...but then I died and was on the Permadeath setting. It was saddening. Even without Permadeath, it's still possible to get into unwinable situations...like if you use up all your food before the end or something.

    Cheers.

    I just couldn't resist. :p

And I am not going to be buying LIMBO, the spiders in there are too realistic and I am suffering from slight Arachnophobia.
So it's not a good mix.

    Today's Daily Deal is Magicka. £1.99 / $2.49

There's like a dozen bits of DLC for Magicka, and they're all on offer as well, but I won't list them because it would take me half an hour.

Also, the Weekend Deal is Nuclear Dawn. It's free-to-play all weekend, and on offer at £8.99 / $11.99. There's also a four pack (one for you, three to gift) for £26.99 / $35.99.

Oh no! You didn't tell them to go to the store page to enter the giveaway! How will they know to do it now?!

    HOW WILL THEY KNOW?!?!?!?!

Because I've been telling them for 15 days and I'm fed up of typing it. Go and enter, don't go and enter, whatever. I couldn't care less anymore.

Oh, great, the Magicka DLC is on sale again. Now I have to buy the rest of it again. I need to play this damn game so I can hopefully justify all the DLC I've bought for it.
  • edited December 2011
They will be releasing DLC for that game again and again. And I will keep buying it.

A bunch of games updated with Christmas achievements today. (I'm seeing Poker Night, Toki Tori and others.) Seems like an omen for an upcoming bonanza.
  • edited December 2011
Man, that means I'll have to do those achievements in advance.

TF2, L4D2, And DoD also have achievements.
    EDIT:And Sanctum
EDIT2:Meat Boy has 2, how many games have these achievements?
  • edited December 2011
I am not finding out the list of gamers with Christmas updates. Just so you know.

I was going to post today's Daily Deal, but I'm so outraged by the price conversion I'm just going to rant about that instead. Swearing ahead, and lots of it. Apologies for that (but not the rant) in advance.

This is bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit. And I get mad enough when they don't even convert it at all and just use the same number for every currency, but this just takes the fucking piss. If you were to convert the UK price into dollars, today's Daily Deal ends up being almost TWICE the actual US price. TWICE. How the fuck do you get away with shit like that? It's just complete and utter bullshit! Fuck this! Fuck this entire goddamn thing!
  • edited December 2011
On the other hand, $10 for Total War: Shogun 2 would be extremely tempting to me if I didn't have Christmas presents to buy.
  • edited December 2011
Right, sorry about that. I've had time to breathe, eat, watch Up (it was on TV)... I'm fine now.

Today's Daily Deal is Total War: Shogun 2. £13.33 / $9.99. Yes, that is the right way round.

There's also 5 lots of DLC, all with 75% off. They're all different prices, so I won't list them.

    -x-

To show you just why I was so upset, allow me to do some conversions for you. As I said, the US price is currently $9.99. Let's round that off to $10 and convert it to GBP... that's currently £6.43. Which is over half the price that Steam is currently charging for the game.

Just for the heck of it, let's reverse it as well. The price Steam are charging at the moment is £13.33. Converting that into dollars is... $20.72. So when I said that we in the UK are paying twice as much for this game as those in the US, I meant it.

I'll admit to over-reacting earlier, but at least it was somewhat justified. This is some of the most slapdash pricing I've ever seen on Steam. It's extremely disappointing that they would let something like this slip by, especially when it's on a Daily Deal and likely to get everyone's attention. I'd say that I hope it's a one-off, but sadly it's not. I just hope Steam, or whoever does the pricing, can look at some of these prices and fix them sharpish.
  • edited December 2011
Justified to the max, even the EU price, which is €13.33, isn't that much compared to the UK price.

but it's just as badly converted.
  • edited December 2011
True, I mean, it used to be $1 == €1 (Valve exchange rates), but nowadays, developers just go, screw that, I've got moneys.

But that's not the reason I'm not buying Shogun 2. It makes it easier to justify not buying it, but it's not the reason.

Fantastic. Thanks for that, saves me doing it!

Eesh. I have a good number of games on that list, but I haven't played very many of them, and some of the achievements in the ones I have played sound hard. Much harder than the Summer Camp or Treasure Hunt. Or maybe I'm just being a wuss.
  • edited December 2011
The sanctum one isnt that hard. Just shoot santa when he comes to get some easy presents.
  • edited December 2011
Sanctum is one of those many games I haven't played yet and don't know the difficulty of.
