I feel like they let her talk without first having something for her to say.
You know, I think you might be on to something with that.
However, I think it's not just about a developer doing something because it's their conviction, but also making sure that said developer does so competently. I'm not sure how much of it is cow-towing to fans, rather than that Team Ninja is a decidedly less proficient game developer than Retro Studios.
In other words, a developer can do something with conviction and still achieve a mediocre result if they don't really know what they're doing.
EDIT: Case in point, I'm sure various forumites might say the same about Telltale.

I entirely agree. Unfortunately, what we're seeing in video games is similar to what's happened in the movie industry, with a lot of conviction and not much competency.
I for one enjoyed that Samus was a human with her own faults, yet she still overcame them to do what needed to be done. IMO, a much better character than, say, a silent soldier for hire. Samus =/= Boba Fett with boobs.
However, I do think that eventually Nintendo will cave when it comes to Zelda. I personally think that the way to go would be to have "gibberish" voice acting, ie. the characters are speaking Hylian, that way we still have the text and they won't have to worry about fitting the translation to "lip flaps".

Meh, that was mildly annoying in Animal Crossing and it would be massively annoying in Zelda. I'm against speech of any kind, but I'd much prefer normal voice acting over gibberish.
Oh, believe me, I'm against it too. But I think that Nintendo WILL eventually cave, and I was just pointing out a way it would work.
I was rather soured on voice acting after watching a review of Arc Rise Phantasia. I had been really looking forward to that game, but just the voice acting in a 5 minute review was too much to handle. Terrible. The problem here is that not every game company is Square-Enix...which, for the most part, is a very good thing.
And anyone that brings up a game like Mass Effect, Arkham Asylum/City, or any Rockstar game in favor of voice acting, I'd like to point out that those games were made in the US with US audiences in mind. Therefore, there were no translation issues to be sorted out, nor a difficult time matching the "lip flaps" of the characters.
I got Zelda for Christmas (the special edition to boot. The CD is awesome. ), but I didn't play much when I first got it. But I've finally gotten into it, and it's brilliant. I've beaten the first three dungeons, just need to solve that Guide Tower thing puzzle. Taking a break now, going back to it tomorrow.
Groose is by far one of the best characters IMO.
The scene where he first goes to the surface was just great. Why wasn't Hyrule called Grooseland? It should have been called that.
Anyway, the controls are great! Although, they are a bit fiddely sometimes. I jab the remote forward to thrust, but instead I just thrust my shield. I'm really enjoying it so far, it is one of the best Zelda games, perhaps the best one. I'll have to wait to finish it first before I decide.
Finally decided to give the 25th Anniversary Soundtrack a listen. It's giving me chills. Either that or my room is cold, but I'm assuming it's the former.
Yeah. That may be what they use in a fantasy world, but here in modern times it's just a little too feminine. Would be neat to have on display, though. But that would defeat the whole purpose.
Huge RUMOR Alert. The latest rumor surrounding upcoming Zelda titles is that there will be a pair of titles for the 3DS. The rumor started after the following image appeared on *sigh* 4Chan.
Obviously, since it's coming from 4Chan, it doesn't deserve complete credibility. In fact, it should be treated with the opposite. Still...it's nice to dream, right?

Actually, if it originally came from 2Chan, it could have some credibility. From what I've heard, real leaks come from there all the time. I'd love a 3D update to the idea of games like the Oracle series, but I'll wait for the official announcement to believe it. What does that Japanese say?

So, basically, Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages 2.0?

Oh, man. This would be AWESOME. I'd really have no excuse not to buy a 3DS if this is true.
People on GoNintendo are are saying this image has been around since before the 3DS, and is fake. Dunno if that's true, but it's looking less likely that this is real.
So far, I've gotten my DS kanji dictionary* to tell me that the first character in the red one is "fire", and the first three characters in the blue one are "ice". Unfortunately, I can't seem to draw in the second red/fourth blue character, and I can't get anything meaningful out of the rest of it.

I think that's the "wo" symbol (を), which is traditionally placed after nouns and before verbs. The symbol that should've been used is the "no" symbol (の), which is placed after descriptions and before nouns.
I'd love to believe that Prophecy of Fire/Ice image was real but it's just too suss. Personally, I'm going to assume it's a fake and if it does turn out to be real than that will just be a bonus.

I said 4Chan, not 2Chan. And it has been confirmed to be fake by Glitterberri, who has been translating Hyrule Historia and therefore has a working knowledge of the Japanese language:
"The problems with the titles are…
-Using を instead of の, which renders it completely nonsensical
-Writing “fire” in kanji and “ice” in katakana makes the titles inconsistent. They should either write both in katakana or both in kanji."
Oh. You're linking gamers' perceptions with the characters' perceptions.
Okay.
Well, Link is our eyes into each game, so it makes sense that what we see is as each Link perceives it. Which is why it annoys me that whoever did the timeline felt the need to take the ALttP opening so literally, resulting in the "Link dies" branch.
Exactly, and as I said earlier, this happened because they took A Link to the Past's opening too literally. Ocarina of Time was created with the mindset that the ALttP prologue was a myth distorted through time, and that they were creating a game showing what actually happened. The Zelda series is exactly what it says on the box: a legend, and legends get distorted over long periods of time.
But then you have someone writing a timeline that clearly doesn't get the "legend" part, and they find that they have this game that clearly is supposed to take place in the A Link to the Past prologue, except that one hero lays the beatdown on Ganon, while the Knights of Hyrule don't factor in at all. Rather than go with the "obscured by time" explanation that Ocarina of Time was intended to have, they decided the only solution was to say that these games only take place in a timelne branch where Link dies.
So I don't care what anybody says. If there really is an official timeline document that all of the games are being placed into as they're developed, the person who wrote the timeline in Hyrule Historia never saw it.

Why? As I recall, A Link to the Past exists because Ganon was imprisoned. Yes, he has the united Triforce in his possession, but he can't get out of the Sacred Realm to use it.

I'm not sure what to feel about this.
It might make sense, but I'm not sure that I'm hearted to know the Hero of Time became a Stalfos.
I'm not sure what you mean by that.
Okay.

Stupid.
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
The branches in the timeline occur as a result of actual storyline events, not hypothetical possibilities.
Whoever wrote that timeline should be hit over the head with a large trout.

I agree. This is on par with bad fan fiction.
You can play Ocarina of Time without dying. Dying is not a requirement while playing the game; it's not a part of the story.
