Aye, that's probably true. I liked Carly well enough and it was shocking but I was still like, grab Lilly, she can shoot!!
(Btw love your forum nickname, I just finished a re-read of Genji)
Thanks, although I got the name from an episode of Star Trek because I thought it sounded cool. My preferred username is Elysium, but that seems to be taken up already.
As for Lilly, now that I have had time to reflect on my decision to leave her, I still don't think I would have changed my mind. She's an untrustworthy, unstable emotional wreck and a little too trigger happy. Considering what does happen if you take her with you seems to prove my point that she can no longer be trusted. I wouldn't feel comfortable anywhere near me.
i dont want to say much because im still in shocked after completeing the episode. there are lots of twists and turns. when they say Choices matter in Ep. 3, they mean CHOICE MATTERS!!
Yeah--and wouldn't it be great if CHOICES ACTUALLY MATTERED!!!
After all, when that's the single most sold element about the game, and the makers can't even figure out how to get my choices in the pc version to carry from one episode to the next, they get an "F" in their most important subject. I've enjoyed a few aspects of the game, but between the bungled carryover of choices and the clunky game mechanics in what should be an extremely simple desigh, I have to say I'm very disappointed.

Make sure there's no prefs.prop in any of your steamapps folders and delete them if there are. An easy way to check is to make sure it doesn't recognize any of your stats from previous games. If it does, it means you need to find the prefs.prop in the "steamapps\common\the walking dead\pack\default" folder and delete it.
Start a new game. Play until your first autosave. Restart the game and check if it saved. If it did, continue. If not, try again except play further. You have to make a new autosave.
Now, if you have windows 7, do a start menu search for the walking dead
You should get a series of folders under Documents (###). The ones that are only a few MBs in size are what you're looking for. The one that's more than a gig under Files (###), ignore that. Now, open the small ones.
One folder should have a couple dozen save_##.save files in it. Another should have only one or two. The one with one or two is your latest autosave. The one with a whole bunch is your previous Episode 1 and 2 autosaves.
Delete all of the folders and files in the one with only one or two saves and copy and paste all of the files and folders from the one with a couple dozen saves into it. Your new folder is now filled with the guts of your bigger, previous folder.
Restart The Walking Dead. All of your stats should now be visible from previous games. This means your choices will now be recognized.
First off. Simply amazed by this episode. Partly amazed, partly pissed but most importantly very partly shocked. Some of the events left me with an open mouth. Quite literally.
The first part of this episode was the best thing I've ever played and/or watched. I loved the tune that played when Duck was playing a detective, it really cracked me up. I know that something would happen to Carley because everything seemed so good between her and Lee but I had no idea it would go down the way it did. Throughout the whole series I've been looking out for Lily and her dad. Giving them the rations, I sided with them in EP2 and tried to save her dad. I never would've thought even in the beginning of EP3 that she would do that. Sure, she was paranoid for a good reason. She hadn't gotten any sleep, witnessed the gruesome slaughter of her dad, been shot at for the last months, and knew there was a traitor in the group... but still. She kind of seemed like the gal that would think something through a little bit even though she was stubborn and not so open minded to things she didn't like. I really thought it was her who wanted the group to stay together and survive and that Kenny was the person who would want to split up and only save his own life. I think it was a great twist but F#¤K LILY. Seriously. Stealing the RV and shit, leaving the whole group to die? What kind of a bitch is that. Carley was stupid when she mouthed off to her and I was like "shit, shut up" in real life. Now after all this, I think Carley was right about Lily. Maybe even since the very beginning. She always tried to take command and be the big boss and was never open to change, criticism or to look at the facts. Staying at the motel was a stupid idea but still I went along with it for some reason. Maybe it was because I thought Kenny was a dick at time that I chose her side. (Yes, I think I get more involved in this game than I ought to, taking it dangerously serious and all). I always thought Lily's would be the good side to be on but I guess "people up and go mad when they believe their life is over".
(Needless to say I'm going to have to replay this game in a whole different way even though I feel like that's a bit dirty knowing what is going to happen. If I could just stay with one save, I would. I don't know, one shot with mistakes would be more satisfying than trying multiple times to get a certain ending. Not really knowing what would happen if you did such and such and roleplay the shit out of it. But one could never resist the temptation to try again.)
It also looked like it was Kat who got bit when Duck got the teeth-treatment. It was pretty weird when Kenny and Kat carried away Duck in the forest when she told me to do it. I thought she would eventually accept it and tag along for the ride because of how she was against violence and hoping for a new beginning. But I guess you can't tell how anybody feel on the inside (deep stuff, ya herd). But yeah, your own son dying in your arms is PRETTY hard on anybody, I guess... Could twist your view on life a bit, I bet.
Although it was pretty obvious that it was Ben that was the traitor (it struck me that Carley could've been it because she was acting so nice and is actually a tough journalist girl underneath but there was really no way), I never thought he would've had the balls to do that kind of thing. He's just an insecure, seemingly good guyish teenager. How did he break in and steal things all this time without anybody noticing? I wonder if he will do any good in the later episodes seeing that he has so far been worse than useless and is still alive.
As I'm filled up to the brim with emotion from just playing it I might as well go on. I hope nobody reads this through.
These three newcomers... I don't know about them. They don't seem that believable to me. The classic old lonely homeless guy that never did no harm to nobody. Nobody in the group seems to doubt him or his intentions, really. He just shows up and has already met everyone and is best friends with them now. Even Kenny apparently. All I could think of was "there's something horribly wrong with this guy". I didn't like how everyone just let it slide even though there were other things for them to think about. But seeing what went on in this episode I can only imagine what they have in store for this guy. I fear that Lee has contracted aids now that I took a swig of his whiskey too.
Christia and Omar-whatshisname was kind of a let down to me. Like I said, they don't seem at all believable. To me. I don't see how they are alive and so "dangerously normal" and friendly+happy at the same time. Guy didn't even seem at all phased by what has been going on for the last 6 months. Sure, there are all kinds of people in this world and yaddayadda. But, Jesus... Like they say that one of the reasons to why they are alive is because they don't believe in groups. Yet they seem to trust a bunch of odd inexperienced characters on a train with a suicidal pipe-dream enough to help and go with them.
Most importantly I think these 3 characters all got involved in the story much too quickly. It was like BOOM, here we are, now a big part of- and best friends with your group! That is how it seemed to me. Maybe I'm a bit slow, though...
The walkie-talkie thing at the end was a mind-blower to me. There was so much else to think about in this episode that I didn't even consider it. I saw her talking on it at the Motor Inn and I know that Carley found batteries for it but I thought she was just playtalking with her parents, or well... Going crazy, I suppose. Kids do have imagination, though. I know that for a FACT, y'all.
Very interested on how EP4 will play out. The only thing I'm worried about is TellTale over-doing it and try to make it even more explosive than this EP. Like it will go out of hand and will not seem believable at all. Like any action game. Too many "extremely close calls", twists and turns and shit. Kind of like what Prison Break became in the end. The last season was just crap to me because of that. EP3 is going to be hard to beat. I hope EP4 will involve more talking and less explosive tankers hanging over the railroad tracks, if you know what I mean.
And what are you guys talking about, "illusion of choice"? As you might have figured out, the world in this game has gone to shit. People will do unexplainable, unexpected, crazy f¤#ked up shit that doesn't really make sense without thinking it through. I'm not sure if we'll ever find out about what happened to Lily neither. I'd actually prefer if we didn't because it would be a part of the mystery. Because Lee and the other would never know. She's gone. It's not a plot hole or an illusion... It's part of the life of the characters in the game. In which life you live only for the day and hope for a better tomorrow. Just because you didn't get the supplies you gathered doesn't mean they didn't count for anything. Scavenging supplies is what you have to do almost every day (I could imagine) and sometimes you're good and sometimes you take a loss. I think the people who think that Carley or just the supplies-gathering was a waste of time are not really meant for this type of game. They may enjoy some bits of it because it's a genuinely good game but calm down, guys. Enjoy the ride like someone said. They didn't make you go gather supplies only to gather supplies. You found out things about Kenny and made some hard decisions on the way back to the motel. It's not like a good old American cop-buddy flick that you know how it will end by looking on the front cover. My cousin thinks that the ending to No Country For Old Men sucked because you didn't really find out what happened (never got a closure). He would never understand or appreciate this game for what it is.
i'm done and now i can sleep well now that i got this steamy pile of rambling off my chest
I'm not upset at TTG for killing Carley. I'm upset at Lilly for doing it.
That's good writing.
I left that b**** to die so hard I bruised my finger from pressing the key. Good riddance to a useless, paranoid, loose cannon. God, she had even less value as an adult teammate than Kenny, and that's saying something.
Morbidly humorous side thought: Anyone want to start a dead pool (no, not this kind, this kind) on Kenny? Given his line about how someone else ought to learn to drive the train "in case something happens to me" line it seems pretty clear to me he's seriously contemplating suicide. And who can blame him at this point? His family was what he was living and fighting for. Without that he's just a selfish wimp.
Did anyone else sense a rapey vibe from Omid and Christa? Might be nothing but i just didn't feel comfortable with them. Great episode though, they did a good job of making you like Duck before he went

I don't trust Chuck... I'm thinking the next episode might involve pedophilia.

Haha that's funny. To top it off, if your relationship with her is still somewhat decent and you bring her with you on the RV, she'll leave after offering to take you with her! She flat out lied just to get Lee off the RV so she could steal it.
Did anyone get the impression that the horde following the train will play a factor in the next episode or at least the finale?
yeah i think so. The train is making constant noise and like they said in the comics, walkers will walk towards a noise they heard for days so i think the horde's gonna get even larger and continue to follow them into Savanna

I wonder what would happen if a nuclear bomb went off, pretty good way to lure them all to one spot before detonating another one... One thing that's always confused me about TWD is that the worlds governments don't look like they really even tried to defend themselves. I've never seen signs of any drastic action taken by desperate people, only ruins of cities that are ruined for seemingly unknown reason.
Seriously, 3 months is not enough time to turn Macon into the town seen in the beginning of episode 3. It takes a bit longer for unmaintained buildings to decay enough to become the ruins they become. I mean, the Walkers are not exactly very destructive to the urban environment itself, just the people living within them.
I'm also not sure how a bunch of zombies brought a helicopter down (the one on top of the Drug Store), can Walkers pilot aircraft now?

No, he probably died from the helicopter crashed then turned.

Yes! They are way too nice. I was pretty sure I was either going to get raped or murdered and eaten when I climbed up the ladder. Or both. In either order. There is something horrible wrong all the newcomers. The old guy just gave me the creeps right away. He reminded me of the Hills Have Eyes when he showed up. Don't know why. But seriously, Omid and Christa are way too nice, happy, and people are showing them way too much love for them not to be murderous thieves. There is no way in hell they survived 6 months without being murderous thieves.
First let me get the negative comments out of the way:
1. The release was again quite late.
2. PC version players, who did pre-order did again have no advantage and were again served AFTER a console.
3. The download of the pc version was difficult. The connection was lost around 20 times and I had to start again and again downloading it.
4. Lilly shooting Carley seemed very manufactured. I didn't quite believe her sudden hate for her.
5. With Carley, Lilly and Katja gone there is only Clem left as a likeable character.
6. How did Clems radio work over such a long distance?
That said, I would like to state that TTG did in my opinion once more a great job with the game itself. Here are my thoughts about episode 3:
1. Depris? „Hmmmmmmmmmmmm“
2. It was good to kill off Duck. He was a strange element in the mix and simply annoying. His stupidity and good mood were a bit displaced in a world like this. It had a nice touch though that TTG made him more likeable with the whole mystery puzzle. Like this I almost felt sad for him. Let's hope there are no bugs in heaven.
3. The suicide of Katja (why double „a“ at the end ?) was surprising. I liked her because she was quite reasonable and helpful. Anyway, surprises like this are good.
4. The flirt with Carley on the balcony and the running gag with the batteries were fun. „You're small!“. Yes, she had to go because it would have been too complicated to keep both characters at the same time, but it's sad to lose the best character next to Clem There will be something missing in the future episodes. Let's hope there are no devices needing batteries in heaven.
5. The dream about Clementine being a walker must have been taken from the forums here Respect! The fear about close people becoming one of them must be present in ones mind all the time and cause a lot of stress. I liked that sequence!
6. Using a train as a way of transport seems to be quite a refreshing idea to me. Nicely done. But I somehow doubt that it would still work after such a long time.
7. The action scene with shooting bandits and walkers was a welcomed change in gameplay. It gets a bit boring just hitting walkers in the head with some random stuff.
8. Teaching Clementine to survive is a nice development. It might be cruel to force a kid to grow up like that, but it's probably best to highten the chances of survival. I would have cut her hair even more though. Making her look like a boy might be a smart thing to do considering rapers etc.
Suggestions:
1. Make Lee find a letter from Carley in one of his pockets. Depending on the relationship the content could be some kind of love confession or a warning or something (In case I don't make it...). It would be nice to hear the voice actor read the letter one last time. That would be a better goodbye, than Lee more or less just ignoring her death.
2. Please implement more scenes, where Lee needs to shoot walkers or people. Maybe you could make it more tactical, if Lee would have limited bullets and would have to make the people fight the walkers and then just makes sure that both sides loose.
3. Please implement a lot of team puzzles with Clementine. Cut the interactions with the other characters and focus more on Clem. The other surviving people aren't interesting to me anymore. Omar and Claire or Christa or whatever don't seem appealing to me.
4. Lee could be teaching Clem a lot of small things like lighting a fire or how to best get rid of a walker in different situations. Maybe he could explain diversions and how to use walkers against bad living people. „A walker is a force of nature. It has no intelligence and just acts on the instinct to feed. It is a huge danger, but it's possible to control them by using baites, diversions and noise. Once you might encounter bad people and because they're stronger, you might need to use the walkers against them. So try to learn how they behave and what they react to. You're sharpest weapon is your mind, Clementine“
5. Lee should make Clem a useful gift. Instead of just giving her food and caps and hoodies, he should give her a knife and explain how to use it as a tool and as a weapon. If not as a weapon, then a Swiss army knife might be nice. She could use the screwdriver to open stuff. Having a little McGuyver might be useful.
This. I personally think that there was alot of potential for future development between Lee and Carley but my main complaint is that her death didn't seem to have more impact on Lee. Sure he was sad but I guess I just expected more...
Even his reaction to his family's demise wasn't that much. I guess he's the type to keep his emotions to himself.
What I personally like about the show (sorry I haven't read the comics) is how people react to losing the people they loved and were close too. I feel that should be expressed in the game as well. Many fans who picked Carley no doubt felt a sense of loss and it should be reflected in the game. Even a flashback or dream sequence might be nice.
Tbh, I can't see episode 4 being any different. The entire game seems to be destined for a pre-determined conclusion. The purpose of the choices is to only influence the dialogue/cutscenes in getting there.
TBH, I don't think any of it will matter till Episode 5. It's sort of what I've been sticking to this entire time. But I like this game, it really does simulate what things would be like. I kind of surprised myself. When Carly died, all I did was Sigh. It's like it stopped even mattering after all that happened. I didn't even feel that mad at Lilly, just disappointed in her weakness. In how easily she broke... When Katja blew her brains out I was like: Another one bites the dust, and unless we find another woman Humanity's fucked.
People weren't people anymore, we were all just pawns in humanity's survival as a species... I fucking love just how much I found out about myself. Before this episode I couldn't imagine leaving a woman to be eaten by walkers, or not killing a love interest's murderer.
I think it goes back to that "game is breaking you" point. Luckily (this will be ironic) for me I was broken from the beginning, so i don't think it hit me as hard. Life's sorta hardened me more than some others here I think... Probably played a part in why I just Sighed.
So it isn't possible to either safe Carly/Doug or to safe Katjaa?
I thought that maybe Katjaa just killed herself cause I told her about what happend at St. Johns.
Personally I find it frustrating, specially the Carly/Doug scene.
I rewinded and tried to stir it up to a different direction, to get the stupid, lying and betraying student shot, but ultimately none of the choices I've been given matter.
Blame the brat, doesn't matter, take the blame doesn't matter.
Nothing did f****** matter at all. Not even the decision to drop Lilly like a hot potato or keep her. Be rude to her afterwards or be nice to her.
Kinda frustrating.
Ok, my turn ^^.
I feel bad about Carley/Doug Death... They were so short in game, in the middle of Ep 1, only at the beginning and the end of Ep 2, and die in ep 3... So sad. She was really helpful... That will be missing in future episodes. Anyway it was good idea about their "Romance" but mustn't end it so early.
I somehow wonder what happens if not the kid has been safed ^^;
(In Episode 1)
Though before playing about 9 hours or so to find out, ... is there a diffrence?
I wanted to know too and replayed episode 1 just to that point. The guy dies even you try to save him. The kid survives. You still get thrown out of the farm by Hershel and Kenny still takes you on the ride to Macon. So I guess it doesn't matter at all - which was pretty disappointing to learn.
Ok, my turn ^^.

Yeah, Carley/Doug return would be Cool, maybe in Ep 5? She knew about their "trip" to Savannah, maybe she Could return with other Group of surviors.
Because when we had conversation near RV, Сarley sad "Thank You Lee" and in the left top of the screen, it shows a massege "Carley will remember that"... Why did is shows?
Why they show us a body of Carley after living her?
Because it is not the end... I don't know how, but developers will return her.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English. I'm Ukrainian
That doesn't mean anything. The game just shows you how the person reacted in the moment. He/she can still die a second later. The same happens with the Hershel boy in the beginning for example. You also get "He notices..." or something similar messages - still next day he dies.

But not in few secinds before death
We got the message and next scene, Carley is dead...
How could Carley Or Doug return they both got shot in the face to my understanding people who get shot point blank in the face they die ???
Well the bullet looked like it only scraped the skin of Carley in my game. Also whilst she was on the floor after being shot i heard her groaning on the floor so who knows the impact of the bullet scraping her skin could of left her unconscious.

She's dead. The rest of them wouldn't have left her there if she was still moving. I'm sure they at least checked to make sure there was a hole in her head.
I hope the reason for that "she will remember" message is just there to make it absolutely unexpected what happens next. It would be too cheesy to be any good if she appeared again later, saved through some weird miracle. You might see Lily again though, either hostile to you for leaving her out there or friendly to you because you didn't.

Well from what i saw no one checked her heart beat or pulse they just awkwardly stared at each other and got back in the RV.

I don't think Kenny has the guts to off himself.
PROS:
CONS:
Oh yeah and duck death depressing and stuff gg tt.
I don't trust Chuck... I'm thinking the next episode might involve pedophilia.
Haha that's funny. To top it off, if your relationship with her is still somewhat decent and you bring her with you on the RV, she'll leave after offering to take you with her! She flat out lied just to get Lee off the RV so she could steal it.
yeah i think so.
But how/why did he crash the helicopter? It doesn't really make much sense.
I suppose he could've been carrying someone in the back who had been killed and he'd come back, but that just seems rather unlikely.
Dude a lot of strange things happens like, I don't know ran out of gas and needed to land somewhere but it didn't end well
Yeah me too I feel that chuck is terry st.john
Mind=blown.
me too xD
Great suggestions Isterio
I love this psychological shit.
There was a guy commenting on Kotaku creating the impression Doug was still alive when riding the train. But he never replied to questions:
http://kotaku.com/5939379/everything-breaks-bad-in-the-darkest-strongest-episode-of-the-walking-dead-yet?post=52318974
Maybe the developers could reveal if that's possible at all - if so without saying how of course.
There wouldn't even be any dialogue for him.
The guy is D E A D.
(In Episode 1)
Though before playing about 9 hours or so to find out, ... is there a diffrence?
I feel bad about Carley/Doug Death... They were so short in game, in the middle of Ep 1, only at the beginning and the end of Ep 2, and die in ep 3... So sad. She was really helpful... That will be missing in future episodes. Anyway it was good idea about their "Romance" but mustn't end it so early.
Thanks, that saves me from replaying just to see if any of the options would have allowed a different outcome.
How could Carley Or Doug return they both got shot in the face to my understanding people who get shot point blank in the face they die ???
If she does show up again, I hope she doesn't have plot immunity just because she's in the comics. Hardly seems fair.
But not in few secinds before death
We got the message and next scene, Carley is dead...
Action was fast, maybe someone find her, and help, checking pulse, cause not turning into a walker... In comics, Carl Grimes survive shot in face too.
Well from what i saw no one checked her heart beat or pulse they just awkwardly stared at each other and got back in the RV.
