ONE thread for the Activision thing please. And we're not even so sure about the "highly anticipated" thing. So's Kirkman.

I hope Robert Kirkman is involved with this activision version. I know TT got alot of permission from him for the episodic game. But in all realality id rather play this FPS walking dead then the Facebook game. If it ever comes out. And if all else fails ill play my Walking dead board game. :)

To all the people bashing Activision's release as being non-innovative; I'd like to know what car you drive.

You don't have to re-invent the wheel to be a good car company; You just have to build a better car then the next bloke.

Activision rocks; & with a far better gameplay record in my book than TTG, I for one will be pleased when theirs isn't the only game title linked to the series.

True, so what exactly is Activision's "better" car? :)

imo activision are trying too hard by using the popularity of the tv show and the actors.

Its funny because you are wrong.

First off, The Walking Dead comics are a hit just as well. The TV show just hit mainstream audiences better. Secondly, no one is anticipating this game. The creator of the Walking Dead himself said making a Walking Dead shooter is a terrible idea. That's how "anticipated" this game is.

hasn't is been stated its a first person adventure and not just a shooter?

Yes, it has. But no one believes that means anything aside from trying to put a better spin on a terrible idea.

I think it's a risk. TT has done a great job for making a very interesting story, but just lacks such a huge gameplay element.

So if TTG is gonna add an AK47+Crossbow, you would like this game more? nah I don't think so.

Many were quick to write off developer Terminal Reality's take on AMC's The Walking Dead due to the first-person perspective. We didn't have much to go on with the original announcement, and it was easy to assume the worst.

My meeting with Terminal Reality showed me that there's going to be some real depth to the game, however. No gameplay was shown off, but the presentation made it seem like its main focus is on the human survival element the franchise is so well known for. You're going to have to make some tough choices along the journey.

This Walking Dead game follows the Dixon brothers, with players in control of Darrel Dixon. The game takes place some weeks prior to the start of the TV show, and the brothers have to get from Georgia to Atlanta to the safe zone created by the military.

How you get to Atlanta is totally up to you. You'll be able to drive through a variety of highway routes, and there's going to be many factors that affect your journey. There will be Road Events that popup along the drive such as the highway being blocked up thanks to abandoned cars. You could circle back to find an alternative route, or you can push the cars out of the way. Trying to find an alternative route will affect how much gas you have left, but it will be safer. Moving the cars out of the way will save you gas, but then you're exposed to the Walkers.

You will also encounter NPCs along the way, who can join your party if you want. Having them join though means you'll need more food and supplies to cover everyone, but NPCs may come with some sort of effect that will help you in your adventure. Part of taking NPCs is tied to your vehicle, and you have to find vehicles with more space if you want to take others with you. You start off with a two seater truck, and can move up to a four door and even a bus that can take up to eight to ten NPCs at a time. It's really up to you, and what you think is worth it. NPCs won't be useless, but they do require more work out of you. You can kick an NPC out of your group whenever you want, and they can even just leave on their own if they're not happy with you.

Players will have to make stops in towns along the journey for supplies, and it's up to you how long you want to look for stuff. Walkers can see, hear, and even smell players so the longer you stay in an area the more trouble you will attract. While there are guns, using them should be used as little as possible as the gunshot noises will bring more Walkers around.

There will of course be a good amount of melee weapons, and the sound designers have done a lot to capture the feel of really smashing a skull in. We were told one story where a sound designer spent hundreds of dollars on fruits so he could smash them in with knifes and other objects in order to capture the right smacking sound.

The Walkers sole goal is to eat you, and we were told they're going to be relentless in their pursuit of tasty human flesh. The worst Walkers are the ones you can't see, like ones that are underneath cars or just laying in tall grass. You will never know for sure if you're safe. Each encounter will be unique, and you could be taking on Walkers one-on-one or even run into to large herds of Walkers.

I have to honestly admit I was surprised at how much depth The Walking Dead videogame is aiming for here. There appears to be way more going on than I could have ever imagined, and I'm now pumped to see Terminal Reality bring this to life.

I don't care if it is an FPS.. I'm getting excited about this game.

most if not all game companies are going to claim their game is the best thing since halo or cod or tekken etc..

how many of them actually stuck with that and the game rocked the socks ? not all of them..

also by the sounds of it's not canon to the tv show if merle and daryl survive together to and from atlanta...

also if they go the choice route thats copying ttg version so it could affect ttg sales of season 2

I hear ya... But I'm a Walking Dead fan and will remain optimistic about this until someone shows me a reason not to be. I don't care what the company has done in the past, just cause past games sucked that doesn't mean that they can't make a great game in the future.

And the game is a prequel to the show so Merle and Daryl can still get seperated sometime during the game (most likely the end).

Not another fps clone...that game formula is so overhyped and overused, in an industry that you can create anything and practically become god, there's about 100 plus games with " grunt with gun shoots clones repeatedly, explosion! Shoot, maybe sneak, shoot shoot shoot, bigger explosion! guy that takes more shooting than usual, rinse and repeat..." That is a multi million pound idea...it's really worrying.

Don't really mean to nit-pick.. but made me laugh.. Atlanta is in Georgia!

I'm kinda looking forward to this game too.. As i LOVE TT TWD game, we are still somewhat limited to following the storyline.

I would love to have the opportunity to have more freedom of movement, sit atop a building and pick-off walkers, or choose to sneak past if needed.

I've thought for a long time now it would be cool if.. (For anyone familiar with World of Warcraft) we had a game like TWD where we had full freedom to roam the cities and forest's, trying to make our way to someplace safe.

How cool would it be to ride a Mechanohawg with a katana whacking off walker head's between Atlanta and Georgia! hehe :D

I made a large post explaining why Terminal Reality's game could be a real classic if they get it right. And how a first person free roamer, with a start point and end point is far better at conveying "survival" and horror than a scripted story that keeps the player on rails thru the entire game.

But the post got eaten by the forum for some reason, and didnt appear.

Im not willing to go into it all again. So suffice to say,not all 1rst person shooters are kiddie games. And to think of quake,CoD,L4D or the BF series, in the same light one thinks of the R6,OFP,and Arma series, let alone the theif series is just lazy and wrong.

If Terminal Reality's game gets the prime elements right,IE stealth, evasion, resource use and requirements (for the char IE food, water,warmth,etc...)and environmental interactions,etc.. It will blow away telltales version simply because the player wont constantly feel limited in what they can do or where they can go.

Telltales does an acceptable job at telling its story in its game, but its their story, we are simply being guided thru it.And much as i like telltales walking dead,it fails in many ways i would rather it didnt.

And yes, this IS a much shorter version :P

If they deliver on the things they have said and hinted at it should be a fun game... We will see.

I'm all up for zombie killing and surviving in the zombie apocalypse but I kind of want Daryl from the T.V show to stay on the T.V show for the most part. I kind of wished Terminal Reality ( the makers of the game ) just made the game without using the licence. This is just my opinion though, I really made this thread though to see what others thought of the game.

For those who don't know a while ago Activision announced they would make a fps walking dead survival game.

It might be a bit early to judge the gameplay since the product has only gone so far as being green-lighted. If six months ago you would have told me I would be looking forward to episodic point and click adventure games I would not have believed you.

I'm not a fan of FPS games, but it should cut down on some of the complaints this game receives from those kinds of fans.

This. Also they're trying NOT to make this a shoot em up. People hear fps and they just think "GUNZ!!!" the game actually uses stealth, scent , running out of situations or hiding. Yeah guns will be in the game but if you just run and shoot everything in your path you will find yourself fighting more walkers then before and of course with less ammo.

Not just because it's a FPS but because it's activision. I hope what you say is true. They'd get my respect if they tried something different with the first person mechanic.
  • edited October 2012
If they keep it true to The Walking Dead name, then I say go on ahead!

But then you realize Activision is publishing it...
  • edited October 2012
If it acts as the thrown steak that lures the XBox generation away from this game, I don't care how bad it is.
  • edited October 2012
I'm always scared when Activision takes control or gets their hands on a popular IP license. They are clearly known for rushing their games and I don't want them to mess up The Walking Dead in any way.

    ^

Ah, my memories..Crash..Spyro...all of them today are ruined like hell by Activision.

Anyway, i don't really mind since the trailer didn't particularly interest me. It's probably because i didn't began even watching the TV series yet and i'm still hanging my hands onto Telltale's Walking Dead. I guess when some gameplay's gonna be released, i'll check it out, hopefully Activision will make the game interesting enough and not repetetive at all

    A-he-hem. Ahem.
  • edited October 2012
    Nope, it's Activision.

Feels like *cough*CoD*Cough*.Activision lacks money ah?
And please change the title to Activision presents Call of Duty:Walking Dead edition.

WOW everybody is hating on the game when no info has even been released. Don't get me wrong i hate Activision and CoD. But at least wait till we know more about it before you start hating on it. Give Terminal Reality a chance.
  • edited October 2012
Not going to say its rubbish, because i dont know and i'll be ashamed if it turns out good and I buy it, but i have low hopes for it.

Seems like while it isnt the simple "kill thousands of zombies with a big axe" game it doesnt seem to concentrate on why i love the Walking Dead which is the focus on the hard choices and the character development and how different alliances and groups are made. The whole "Sneak away and avoid zombies" idea seems interesting but i feel it will just disguise the hack and slash elements which the game will revolve around. Just my 2 cents

I agree that FPS games can be done well. I love Fall Out 3, which is FPS/RPG and sandbox. I would love to see something similar done with the new non-telltale walking dead game. I'm just worried that what will happen is that it will end up like House of the Dead.
However, I think that Telltale does much more than an acceptable job on its game :D I believe they've said from the start that the game was going to be heavily story driven. I don't feel limited playing TTG's Walking Dead game because I play it 90% for story and 10% for ...well I guess everything else. lol
I do get your point, though. I hope that the FPS game will be good. I'm just worried that it won't be xP

Id want a walking dead jagged alliance type game where you controll many characters and you have to do all sorts of "missions" to survive.

THAT is one I'd like to play!

I have only played one satisfactory Activision title. I have no hope for this one. I don't enjoy fps games at all usually but I checked out when I heard Activision...
