Do not read this posting, if you haven't played the game yet. Knowing this part of the plot will most certainly annihilate all your pleasure of playing the game. You have been warned... In fact, don't read it at all because it's stupid.
Yes, it was very funny to encounter the problems that Carly had with her radio, but seriously? That kind of destroyed the atmosphere a little. How can a person be that stupid? Even in such a stressful situation...
1.) She doesn't check for batteries in the radio, when it doesn't work?
2.) She doesn't know how batteries look like? "I wouldn't know what to look for"
3.) She puts them in the wrong way?
w00T? Clementine is smarter, than her. She knows how to operate a radio (wt)! Anyway, this element of the game might be too humoristic. It kind of counteracts the tension of the sincerity of the situation they're in.
I'm amazed that she stayed alive that long. Well, she probably will always need somebody to save her ... like Doug and Lee (if you choose to) did. Does this make her valuable for the player? Because men feel good about helping the helpless damsel in distress? But to be honest ... she won't survive episode 2 anyway, right? She probably kills a lurker halfway, gets bitten and then she walks backwards in a pitchfork or something.
I don't think the battery is important. I think it was added to make the game longer and give you something else to do...........
the thing is the batteries don't show up as hotspots till you look at the radio and i think this game doesn't do puzzles for puzzles sake it's mainly the story and the survival choices and the 'puzzles' are just simple tasks..

Kind of like the ATM/bank card thing.
Wonder if that 5000$ will be needed later in the game.
I wondered what the significance of the ATM machine was. I did not think that the area outside would have changed much in the short time I was out retrieving glen. I think it should have been available in the earlier scene as well.
ok so an ATM machine and Card, A Plank on the farm, Kicking the zombie on Carleys leg rather then handing her her purse. What other options did most people miss?
Goddammit! I thought there was an ATM card and have been replaying it trying to find it. although money is no use in a zombie apocalypse I thought it might be of use to bribe the bandits in Episode 2 if they think the apocalypse will end and things will go back to normal
I get the feeling Doug/Carley will die in Episode 2. It'd be kind of difficult for that "Who did you save?" choice to carry on through the entire series.
And while Carley may be technologically illiterate, she does know how to use a gun.
Doug/Carley
I believe they may die but not a must...
but that's just a 'reckoning'
I tried not saving either of them, but its a no no...
1 of them had to live (I hope we can actually choose not to save either in future eps.)
So they may or may not be vital in the next game, be it they end up alive or dead.
but from the ending here, looks like they just left.
As for the Gun, I was just listening to a podcast, where they talk about a grunt who doesn't know how to hack something & people call him stupid (because other characters can hack it, who happens to be high tech. people compared to the old man)
Radio
worst case example in a show is "Big Bang Theory"
where they try to make modifications to a robot, he can't even open a tool box.
To be fair, the most they achieved was changing the battery to the remote, lol
I agree, but I also think that is very realistic for her to not know how to operate one. She is a radio reporter out of Atlanta. Big city, big radio station. They really do have tech guys that work on all of the equipment, while reporters touch nothing but the mic. She probably has never owned something so old as that radio looked to be. It probably belonged to Lee's father and was quite old. A cellphone and a tv remote look nothing like it.
Do you want to give a gun to someone like that? She might forget which end to point at the bad guy. In reality I wouldn't. Do you remember the scene in the tv show, where the blonde lady almost kills the motor cycle guy with a rifle bullet?
That depends, not knowing how electronics work does not mean they won't know how weapons work...
Some if not most mindless-killers are experts (at least they know how to use it)
in weaponry but shit with other stuff.
The funny thing is, this sort of thing where a character acts ignorant to obviously set up a puzzle wouldn't seem nearly so out of place in Monkey Island or Sam & Max or even Back to the Future. But the characters in Walking Dead are so realistically written that it stands out.
Sam & Max Season 1/2/3: Sam is reluctant to shooting, or hurting people and never seems to want to kill them no matter how evil they are...
As someone who works in tech support - it is not hard for me to believe that she could be so stupid as to not know there are no batteries in the radio, and how to put them in. I lol'd at this situation and it reminded me of conversations I have had with customers.
Customer " My cable box won't turn on"
Me "Does the remote light blink?"
Customer "No?!"
Me "Then the bateries are dead"
Customer "oh, it needs batteries?"
Me "Yes"
Customer "Oh, they are in the box... here I'll put them in... it's still not working!"
I haven't read ALL 10 pages so anything I mention here might be redundant in a way but I'll say it anyway:
While the situation did strike me as a little ridiculous as it was happening further thought has lead me to the conclusions others had about stress and it is possible to forget something that seems so obvious. If it was obvious to you..then congratulations! You might be of value to the group of survivors survivors you come across when the zombipocalypse begins!
However from a story standpoint it makes even more sense. You do not know at the time (unless you've read "spoilers" on the forums) that you will have to make a choice between the two. The scene inside the gate at the pharmacies front door where Doug figures out how to reprogram the universal remote shows that he has at least a bit of technological know how while she has apparently very little. So it sets up a technology versus use of firearms scenario for you to make your decision.
Some wanted to save Doug because of his technological knowledge however he states to Lee that he memorized codes while in AV club. So that could possibly limit what he can actually accomplish technologically. Once the whole season is over I will replay each episode and make different choices and perhaps I'll find out if his knowledge is of any help as the season progresses in which he lives.
And the third reason for this seemingly ridiculous scenario was a vehicle to get to find out more about her. Obviously the game is built on how other characters perceive the Lee that you play so we should be concerned by the lives of the survivors around us. And we really knew nothing about Doug other than AV club and the fact that he somehow saved Carley from Walkers.
And I also chose Carley (and according to the stats at the end of the episode an overwhelming majority did also, if I remember correctly) because she came out on the mission to save Glenn when it was just the two of you. And because of the conversation after meeting the woman at the motel and the one in the pharmacy office she has greater insight into the character that Lee is. And if it's ever necessary, which with a story like this it sure seems that it would be, she is that much more aware of what he's gone through to save other people and to make tough decisions which probably end up being for the best. Hopefully.
Doug just stood by the open gate telling Lee to hurry. That's all I need for four more episodes (or until I had Lee kill him off himself)...have him nagging without lending a hand. Although it'll probably turn out that if I'd saved him that he would find some spare parts to create Ghostbuster style proton packs which vaporize zombies...and runs on batteries just to make me feel that much better about saving him.
Comments
and once they are in the radio they aren't listed in lee's hud
once the item is used for it's goal thats it.
bttf did the same even thought marty kept some stuff in the next episode it was gone.
i think if items stayed the simple inventory hud would get over whelmed and cluttered.
I didn't use the batteries, so I am hoping they still show up
and I'm thinking Doug could fix it, and I could put the batteries in it
idk, just try to think how this might progress, I'll guess we'll find out.
Sometimes background junk is just a background junk
I don't think the battery is important. I think it was added to make the game longer and give you something else to do...........
I think it was too.
But I also think it's pretty bad that they couldn't come up with a better puzzle at that point then "put batteries into a radio."
Kind of like the ATM/bank card thing.

Ok, call me fool.
yeah we got trolled badly lol
also when you rescue glenn, the hotspot for the atm is blocked by glenn...
sucks but would of been nice
Errrr.... back to topic?!
You have made a powerful enemy this day.
undead bankers?
for those optimists who think the world will recover
and things go back 'to normal'
undead strippers?
Why not all 3 of the above? 8D

"It's not in my job description" comes to mind.
She either hadn't finish it yet, or her roommate replaces it for her or she buys a new one when it stops working.
or maybe just maybe, as some may not believe it
She don't have such a toy.

Comics:
... o_o Sam can sound like a sadist sometimes...
What Kind of Roommate Randomly/Generously replaces Sex Toy Batteries
Customer " My cable box won't turn on"

Customer "No?!"
Me "Then the bateries are dead"
Customer "oh, it needs batteries?"
Me "Yes"
Customer "Oh, they are in the box... here I'll put them in... it's still not working!"
Me "Did you put them in right?"
Customer ".... Oh, it's working now" *Click*
So - in review, people are this dumb...
*Stares off into space glassy eyed and drooling imagining carley and felicia day as roommates who share a sex toy . *

Now that u mentioned this, I remembered something in the opposite point of view, well actually its both the customer & customer service who erred
There was a printer issue, spent dunno how long trying to resolve it.
I walk up heard what the problem is, take a look at it & saw the wire was not plug to the pc.
Isn't it the number 1 question for cust. services (IT services) to ask, if its plugged in?
Did you read what omegadk1 wrote some post above?
