Since when is Shadow Warrior on Gog??
  • edited January 2013
GOG will be back to its regularly scheduled schedule next week.
  • edited January 2013
OK folks, welcome back to your regularly scheduled update. Today GOG brings us active release number 495, which is Cultures 1+2 for $9.99.
  • edited January 2013
No Gem Promo today, but something almost as good. Didn't get The Witcher 2 during the big winter sale? Well... this price isn't nearly as good, but TW2 is now only 20 bucks on GOG.
  • edited January 2013
    only 20 bucks

    You are kidding? Right?
That thing was 7.49 in the Steam sale AND you got the GoG version free of charge with that.

Yeah, this information isn't that useful a WEEK after the sale ended. But hey, if it were up to me, GOG'd have LucasArts games by now.

Either that or Conquest Frontier Wars.

Active releases number 496 and 497 are up, and are King's Bounty: Crossworlds GOTY for the launch price of $14.99, and Imperialism 2: The Age of Exploration for $5.99. Incidentally, now that The Witcher 2 is 20 bucks, I think that makes this new King's Bounty game the most expensive game on GOG, since the normal price is 25 bucks.

Edit: Wait, I forgot about the stuff from Telltale that's more expensive. Nevermind.

So, who here still has money to give GOG? Who here is looking for a bundle that you DON'T have to buy every game in just to get the good sale price? The weekend sale is 60% off of the Digital Games Factory titles, including Commandos, Constructor and Creatures. Also, check out this week's episode of This Week in GOG for a news recap AND a hint for the 500th game, coming next week.

Mid-day PSA Edit: Did you support Strike Suit Zero on Kickstarter? Well, Born Ready Games just announced that they're going to be releasing Strike Suit Zero on GOG, and they'll be giving GOG codes to backers who want them. Hurry up though, if you don't contact them you get a Steam code instead.

We're almost at the finish line here, folks. Active releases 498 and 499 are up, and they're the RTS/Space Sim game O.R.B. for $5.99, and Avernum: The Complete Collection, a series of old school cRPGs, for the launch price of $7.99. So, barring any other removals, the 500th release will be made available on Thursday. What could it be? I'm not saying I can see the future, but I'm pretty sure that it's not going to be something we want, and it's probably going to be Bard's Tale. Or Final Fantasy 7. Or Tomb Raider despite the clue being very specific that it was NOT a platformer. Definitely not Leisure Suit Larry, because that would be awesome.
  • edited January 2013
All signs are pointing to Bard's Tale. I would love it to be FF7, but it's not going to be.
  • edited January 2013
I honestly hope it's not Bard's Tale. They said the release would be "special", and I can't see a game that's already widely available and sometimes cheaper as being a "special release".

    edited January 2013
Errr... so the hint is "booby". ARgh.

Tomb Raider (2013) pre order. Now THAT would be a game number 500. That would even convince me to BUY that Encharted clone with a multiplayer tacked on.

Well, we'll see what "special" means to the gog guys, and will judge that word accordingly in the future. :p
  • edited January 2013
They explicitly said it wasn't going to be a platformer. Doesn't that rule out Tomb Raider?
  • edited January 2013
The newer one would be an 'action-adventure' or something.

I posit it'll be Leisure Suit Larry. Or possibly something involving birds, but that'd just be mean.

I'd LOVE for it to be Larry, but I don't see that happening. I'm pretty sure it's too mired in red tape to get released any time soon. Unless it's the remake, but why would GOG make an unreleased game their 500th release?
  • edited January 2013
Well, it DID just get Greenlit on Steam, and I'm guessing Al Lowe owns the rights to at least the first game, otherwise how could he remake it?

Just a theory mind, but it does seem to fit.

That was the new remake that got Greenlit. The originals are still... I honestly have no idea what's going on at this point. I THINK Codemasters owns the IP rights, and are licensing those out to Replay Games to make the remake, but the actual original games may/may not belong to them.

Alrighty, time for the first GOG Gem Promo of 2013, and it's... Hotline Miami? That can't be right, I don't even think it got a reduced price during the winter sale. Ehh, whatever, get Hotline Miami for 50% off.

Edit: And the 500th game is... Omerta: City of Gangsters! I'm just kidding, it's a pre-order, so even though it says '500' in the catalogue, it doesn't count as the official 500th active release. You can pre-order it for $33.99 (although for the Euro folks, the price is apparantly roughly half of what Steam has it for so... yeah).

ROFL. UMG has blocked the release trailer in Germany for reasons of copyright infringement. Now THAT'S funny. :D

It's Leisure Suit Larry. The 500th release is one of the Leisure Suit Larry collections. It's 10 bucks, and it comes with Larry 1-5, the VGA remake of Larry 1 and the original Softporn Adventure. No Love for Sail, though, and no word yet on whether or not the talkie versions are included.

Edit: Also, while we get some info on what's really included in this set, enjoy this giveaway (May require Facebook). 500 people may be lucky enough to receive a 10 dollar GOG game of their choice.

Edit 2: OK, we are receiving reports that the talkie version of Larry 6 is included. I will see you folks tomorrow, then.

It's nice to see another classic Sierra series get put up on GOG.com. :D

I'll be picking this one up for sure (although I'll probably wait for a sale).

    ...not my world.

So, just because the release is done, doesn't mean I'm done for the day. Are you in the group of "people who bought Eador: Genesis" and also in the group of "people from Russia"? You'll be happy to know that Eador: Genesis has been updated to include a Russian language version.

Note that it doesn't require Facebook (not completely at least). You can enter with just your e-mail in this one. You get 8 entries, 1 from Facebook, 2 from twitter (1 from tweeting about the giveaway (which you can do once a day for more entries) and 1 from following GOG.com on twitter), and 5 from just filling out a field that asks what GOG.com should do next to improve.

Looks like GOG spent all of their 'interesting content' points yesterday with Leisure Suit Larry. Today's sale is the "Mid-Winter Variety Promo", which is 60% off a random mish-mash of games.
  • edited January 2013
    Wow. That IS random.

Any idea if Litil Devil is any good? It's piqued my curiosity.
  • edited January 2013
Oh, I forgot to add This Week in GOG for the recap and the new game clue. Spoiler alert, the clue is for Bard's Tale.
  • edited January 2013
The only release from GOG today is Conquest: Frontier Wars for $5.99. No big deal, really, we've known it was coming for several weeks now.

Edit: Minor backtrack onto the topic of Leisure Suit Larry. Finally, someone at GOG explained why they included the VGA-talkie version of Larry 6 instead of the SVGA version. And it all boils down to the fact that it didn't run on ScummVM, which they're using for the emulation of the Larry games. Nevermind the fact you can spend 5 minutes on DosBox making it work, it didn't work on ScummVM, so they didn't bother including it.

Bard's Tale AND Strike Suit Zero. Though, since SSZ was a last minute addition to the schedule, we might get a third game.
  • edited January 2013
Oooh cool, I wasn't aware of SSZ. Looks like an interesting space sim/action game.

Still thinking about getting Defender's Quest? Well, now you can, with today's Gem Promo. Get Defender's Quest for a whopping 60% off.
  • edited January 2013
Sorry, Bard's Tale fans, looks like your sure thing was wrong. Today's release is the Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete bundle, for the launch price of $14.99.

Edit: A bit later than normal, but the other scheduled release of the day, Strike Suit Zero, is now up for the launch price of $15.99. Or, if you remembered to ask for a GOG code, you'll get it for free if you were a Kickstarter backer.

And the next batch of Mac compatible games are up for download. They are Legend of Grimrock, the Blackwell Bundle, Postal 2, Ultima 7, Conquest of the New World, Alpha Centauri, Fallout 2, Terminal Velocity, Freespace and Colonization.
